Read the other threads on this subject. Failed retainers don't look "bent or broken". What happens is that the valve stem seems to "drop" into the retainer.
Yea I understand that, I looked at the picture. To me the right one looks bent but I suppose its the camera doing that. And BTW broken to me is its not doing what it is supposed to do. I did read the other posts as well and looked at the pictures and can see the valve stem dropped in it and to me this is broken. If anyone else has info besides splitting hairs on what I said, would it be a good idea to replace them regardless?
Thanks for the reply darkfx. I saw on there that a dentist mirror could be useful in looking for cracks because you cant see them while they are in there. I suppose I will try and find one of those to try and check to. That picture helps as well I see what crack s are on there you are talking about. Thanks a lot for the info I will probably take a look at all this on the weekend.

You know what. Mike is trying to help you out and give you advice. And you want to get pissy with him?
So far, people have been talking about what "their" mechanics have done. Mike has actually done it himself, so you want to get stand offish on somebody who actually knows what he's talking about? Good luck, pal. Your attitude stinks.

Wasnt trying to make anyone angry I just dont apprieciate the answer I got. I said it looked bent and like I said to me something being broken means it doesnt work the way it is supposed to. I know I have to look for cracks have them replaced if they are cracked for instance. However I got a good response that was useful from darkfx instead of someone simply pointing out my novice mistake at explaining something. Not trying to piss anyone off this forum i know is full of knowledge I have yet to learn, but just because someone has some knowledge on a particular subject doesnt qualify to give a response that was unnecessary and was basically just to point out a neglible mistake.

Because I haven't done it "myself", means I dont know what Im talking about?

I'm not even going to qualify this with a response. You know damn well what I was getting at.
I'm done here. This is getting just plain stupid. People who are asking for help should take what they get in whatever form it comes. If you want only answers you want to hear, try another forum.

My point was that you can't see the cracks, you can only see their effects. So you need to know what you are looking for. You question didn't make it clear that you understood that, so I was trying to point you to the resources you needed. In fact, it's still not quite clear from what you write that you understand the issue. If you do, great. If you don't, too bad.
I wasn't angry at your response, but it wasn't likely to make me bother to give you any advice in the future.
