Default really need some help here

about 3 weeks ago i was driving home when i noticed v-tec wasnt engaging properly. i pulled over at a gas station and popped the hood to find that my oil filter had developed a hole(dont ask me how) and that oil was leaking out of it. when i changed the oil and the filter, i found that i had lost a good 2.5 quarts. after the change, the car seemed to perform fine(v-tec was engaging, no power loss), however from 5.1-5.3k i started hearing this odd scraping/metal on metal rubbing noise. i brought it to a mechanic to listen to and he thought it sounded like vibrations coming from a loose exhaust component; i checked my whole exhaust system and everything was bolted on tight. the sound persists today and i still cant figure out what it is. just revving the engine produces no odd noises even at the 5.1-5.3k mark. the noise is only heard when power is being put to the wheels from 5.1-5.3k rpm....nothing can be heard before or after that portion of the rpm band. any help or suggestions would be awesome.

Is it loud enough to capture on a vid?

Might see if a local s2k expert can take a ride in your car to listen. Post in your local s2ki forum.

driving with 2.5 quarts low is not a good thing. you may be lucky just to have the engine still running.

let us know what you find out...it is odd that it only occurs at 5.1 rpm.

i hear a metallic rasp from my engine at about 4.5 rpm only first thing in the morning when the engine is still cold...when the engine is warm the metallic rasp is gone.

so when my engine is still cold i don't rev to 4.5 anymore.

WOW! 2.5 quarts is a lot. If the engine ends up toasted I would sue the oil filter manufacturer for damages.

My engine has a raspy noise between 5-7k, but mostly after it is heated up.. strange.

Anyway, good luck.
