Ringing sound when accelerating in VTEC
Since day one that I got my car (January 2001) I hear a ringing noise when accelerating fast through the gears. I believe the ringing sound starts when the car gets into VTEC, but I think it may just be because the car is vibrating a little more? It may be something on the gearshift that is loose under the cover. It sounds like it is coming from the center console area infront of or near the stick.
Any ideas or similar sounds?

I have this same ringing about 1000 rpm before redline. I was told its just the valve lash you are hearing. Takes aftermarket headers usually on other honda's before you hear this..but you can here it on the s2k.
Des,
Des,
I heard that too tonight. Never noticed it before. But because tonight was one of those night when I have the whole highway to myself so it was very quiet. When I tried to vtec the sound appeared around 7000-9000rpm. Anyone else? Hope that is not a problem.

I'm not worried about it. The car's done it ever since 800 miles (when I finally took it above 6k), and my guess is that it's characteristic intake noise. I had a similar sound on two previous cars (albeit they were domestics) but AFAIK, it's just rushing air. I don't doubt that there's a minor intake sound w/ a 2.0 liter motor running 8k+ rpm.
