Default Shifter is literally stuck in downward position

So I have read a couple of forums on how to take the shift lever out. I have pretty much taken the 3 bolts holding the shift lever down, but it wont pop out. I tried pulling it as hard as i can and it wont budge. It still shifts fine going into all the gears, but it is not coming out easily like whats described in other forums. I am wondering if the spring is somehow stuck or popped out of place and is preventing the shift lever to pop out. Anybody run into this problem or any idea what I can do without having to take the transmission out would be greatly appreciated?

I had to pop mine off with a small pry bar/screwdriver.

I do not have a small enough screwdriver at the moment to attempt this. I will try this again when I get the right tools. That ring is really annoying and always blocking my view though.

A bit confused. If it is "literally stuck in downward position" you should not be able to "shift fine into all gears". The down is a lock out for reverse.

That said are you in neutral when pulling up? There is a good DIY on the Axial Engineering website...if the website is still up. You should not need to pry. Shift into neutral, put the knob back on, top down, straddle the shifter and yank straight up.
