Default Strange Rotor Wear

I just replaced my front pads with ap1 (I have an '04) and noticed that the rotors have weird wear on them. The outer area of the rotor has a worn ring like that is the only part that is being gripped when I press the brakes. The rotors are aftermarket drilled/slotted but I dont know what brand bc they were on the car when I bought it. Any idea what might be causing this?

Did you have the rotors turned (probably not, since they are d/s)?

Did you bed the pads, or have you just been doing regular driving on them?

You don't need to bed stock pads.

Maybe the old pads were wearing at some weird angle due to a sticking caliper? And this caused some previous conical rotor wear. Now the new (flat faced) pads are only touching one part of the rotor.

Post pics.

Is this what you're talking about?:

I'm pretty sure it's normal.

it's just wear caused by the shape of the pad on the rotor as it wears into the rotor metal. Probably soft rotors or the old pads lasted a long time. Other then turning the rotors there is nothing else you can do, the new pads will cut their own pattern into the rotor now, which might correct the situation over time. I don't think it will harm anything, just make sure your rotors are still the proper thickness to last over another set of pads that you've introduced.

minimum service limit on front is 23mm , brand new rotors are about 25mm, rear service limit is 10mm, brand new is about 12 mm.
