Synchromesh Transmission Fluid

I actually still get the 1 to 2nd grind (when cold) after switching from OEM to GMSMFM but not nearly as bad as it was before. Once everything warms up it goes away.
This pretty much mirrors my experience. I changed my tranny and differential fluids at about 11.5k miles. The 1-2 grind is still there, but improved, when cold and the transmission is butter smooth when warm. All in all, a definite improvement.

What kind of pump do you use to fill the tranny fluid?
On the transmission, I used a 30cc syringe which went somewhat faster. It was probably way more work that I "had" to do but it wasn't bad and I had fun doing it.
FWIW!

...
All,
For pumping fluid into the differential and transmission, I bought a $6 pump from Pep Boys that worked wonderfully. Unfortunately, the pump doesn't last long and didn't work well when I had to do the job the second time. But for 6-bones, I'll buy another one for the next under-car job.
The pump I'm referring to is a pump that PEP BOYS sells for injecting marine transom fluids. Give it a try.
I did the bottle-squeeze method for the first fluid change-outs, but my wrist felt like a lonesome monkey the next day.

Like RR just posted... thicker oils don't translate to better performance. Consider your conditions. Hotter temp areas like Las Vegas and my Phoenix are might consider the thicker fluids during the hot baking months of Summer.
For me, the GMSMFM worked well for my Winter startups. The cold tranny notchiness damned near disappeared, and track events resulted in NO missed second gear transitions.
For the MY04, try GMSMFM and I doubt you'll regret it.
By The Way... I have to say to you all that my stook performed better than I could handle this weekend at Phoenix International Raceway. Not once did I slide off the track - and I was way faster than previous runs.
Love the fluids, love the removal of the clutch slave oriface, and totally ... TOTALLY loved the new suspension setup with the European alignment and stiffer H&R springs. A lot for this GMSMFM discussion, but I really believe that all the mods done to my 04 brings the beast back to where it was ment to drive.
Have fun...and thanks RR for the fluid advice... I'm listening. Great info here!

I have an exotic pump from Griot's Garage that I use for LE607, and also a vacuum ppower extractfor brake bleeding that i have modified for "reverse gear" pumping.
On the S2000, the tranny is easy to get at, and good people like xviper just use a standard gear oil bottle with some tubing and duct tape holding it on. I have the tools and am mechanically "anal" (it's the German heritage I guess0 that I like to use fine tools.
Just use some kerosene or mineral spirits to clean out your dispenser, tubing, and tools when done. Plug them with golf tees or paper toweling or whatever - cleanliness is important.
There are lots of tips and pics of tools and techniques - search for them.
RR.
