Default TRANNY ISSUE

Hi Guys.

Over the weekend I seem to have broken 2nd gear. She wont select second at all and there is quite a bit of noise coming from the tranny when I release the clutch.

I assume this would be the broke items jumping around inside the tranny.
I am not covered by warranty anymore because of the VORTECH S/C and in SA
the price of a new tranny is like R 30000.00 (USD 3750.00). This is really expensive.

I have spoken to a local HONDA dealer and they want me to bring the car in for an inspection. If the 2nd gear is broken, can I only request that gear to be changed, or do I actually require a new tranny?

I have a MY05 which I bought brand new and have complained to HONDA several times about the 2nd gear being notchy and grinding. This starded just 3 months after my purchase. The S/C was only installed like 3 months ago.

Could the blower be the reason? Is the stock tranny strong enough to handle the extra 100hp from the S/C install?

Thanking you for any info/advice.

The charger would not cause such a problem . In my opinion its usually the driver that causes 2nd gear grinding . Ive had to deal with this many times at the dealership . Many customers complain of this , however they dont lose the gear ! These trannys(all models) require a different shifting technique . My advise to you would be to try and remove the charger and take the car to another honda dealer . Thats about it . Also once fixed i would strongly recommend that you work on your shfting into second gear technique . Best of luck !

2nd gear, at times 3rd too, can cause problems because wear and tear from driving it too hard on it (racers). Just talked to a trans specialists (master tech) about my gears too and he said to change my gears if i want to go cheap. That means removing/lowering your subframe and taking the trans out (done it myself) and splitting the trans into two, then replacing it. Its similar to a clutch job. It is a two man job.

i've driven the piss out of my car for the last 25,000 miles at the track and in the mountains and have only had the 1-2 grind maybe twice.....driver error. remember, your foot has to travel twice as far as your hand. therefore your foot has to travel twice as fast as your hand to shift correctly....so mis-shifts are easy if you're not used to shifting like this. when you get it fixed or replaced use royal purple synchromesh tranny oil and gear engagement will be smoother. In cold temperatures (40ish and below) royal purple will make the tranny will feel notchier until the gear oil heats up (5 minutes of driving). After thats its super smooth.

Yes agreed - I am to blame for lousy shifting.
Have had a few instances where my hands were faster than my foot.

Removing the blower did seem like the thing to do, but I was chatting to an ex
honda mech. and he told me that a client once had the exact same problem as mine, and honda did'nt honour his warranty calim.

They said it was driver abuse.
Now to remove the blower and get a declined claim....

Well, anyways, as it stands, the tranny has been un-installed and I've been told
it will cost too much to repair.

A brand new one is not in budget right now. I have called evereywhere locally, but with no luck on finding a used one.

I am gonna have to import one from the states.

You guys wouldnt perhaps know anyone that is selling?

You can buy known good used ones from places like www.hmotorsonline.com. Or you can try EBAY for a known good trans an a seller that will ship internationally.

Check for a used tranny in the classifieds sections..members here are selling them for 900 bucks. If your car is still under warranty I would keep complaining to honda. They will eventually fix it, i promise you. I work at a honda dealership and Honda is the easiest to honor a warranty claim. If they say its from driving it hard, ask them "what is the car made for? If the car is designed to rev to 8200, then I should be able to tach it out, shift gear, and not have a problem with the tranny." Ask to speak to Honda directly and you'll get your claim. We have customers come in for service all the time when their car is out or warranty with a problem and Honda will still pay to fix it. Honda sells so many cars because they know they build a reliable product and will stand behind it.

Mine does the same deal.

Once its hot though, the grinding stops.

I have to say, I'm gonna take my car in for warranty repairs.. it was like this since I got the car, only a month ago.

Best thing to do is just go on the sales floor when its busy and start there.
Theres a reason I'm paying for extended warranty.
