How many x's (on the dipstick) do you wait for to finally top off your oil? im curious to see if the f20c can tell a real difference b/w having the oil at FULL or being 1 or 2 x's low...

Not same as boiler.

To me, it seems that the car performs "less than optimal" when it is 1/2 a quart low. I carry a quart of oil in my trunk and top it off immediately.

I'd be curious to see if there is any correlation with low oil, oil pressure, and VTEC.

Maybe I'll try some type of test during my next dyno session. After 92k miles of driving the S2000, I hope that my butt-dyno is getting better with these types of things.

About once a week I check the oil. If it's low, even one X, I add oil to get to the high mark. I figure that since I'm already there checking it, I should just go ahead and take the time to top it off. I'm not saying it is necessary to do it this way. Theoretically, you should be fine anywhere between the high and low marks, but who knows?

I keep my oil topped up whenever I notice it being lower than full. I am also very careful about not over-filling the crankcase since this is worse than being a little low. My reasoning for keeping the oil level full is that it provides a greater volume of oil to absorb and transfer heat, one of the primary functions of oil in addition to lubrication.

I don't think there's any decrease in oil pressure or VTEC engagement until oil levels get lower than 1/2 - 1 quart down, but I don't want to run my car in that state, ever!

I usually top mine off when it hits about 1/2 way in the "x" area. It's more of a mental than performance thing for me.
