Default WOT max 80% but thottle fully opened

Hi guys,

having some issue with my WOT vs throttle plate position. When the pedal is flat to the floor, the throttle signal shows a max a 80% however visual inspection of the throttle plate shows that the throttle is already fully open.

A P2138 error code CEL came out once but has been cleared and doesn't appear anymore, yet the difference between max throttle signal and throttle butterfly plate still remains...

Any ideas?

Hi Norman, what voltage are you getting? Where are you getting 80% from?

At WOT it should be 4.5 volts (plus or minus 0.2)

Also check it at closed (should be 0.5v)

The TPS can be adjusted on the 2 bolts, but you will need to see the voltage to set it up.

i had the same wondering some time ago:
https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/803...eading-at-wot/

bottom line that OBDii reader showed 78% TPS at max throttle.
Flashpro shows 100%.

so i guess OBDii didn't read it right.....

Mark: I didnt get the voltage readout from the mech but I can check back with him. He told me all the voltage readings are correct. There was a stock tamper proof seal on the APP sensor and he modified it to be adjustable but 80% is the max he's reading from the scanner.

Croc: Think that sounds exactly like what I am facing. Mechanic tightened up a bit of slack on the accel cable but nothing else looked wrong. Throttle plate at the manifold was flat out open at WOT so I am getting 100% there. Flashpro was also tuned showing 100% so I'm mystified why the OBDII scanner would see 79/80%

Thanks for the input guys. Very helpful!

Yep, don't trust the OBD scanner - only use the voltages from the sensor itself.

If it's set up fully open and fully closed with the voltages I posted above, it's fine. But if you use the % reading (which is probably filtered) and physically adjust the TPS, you will screw up your fuelling.

The generic OBDII scanners are built to work on a huge range of vehicles, so like others said, don't trsut them. They're great for pulling codes and giving you a general idea, but anything beyond that should be verified through other means.

Guys: Just to update, when WOT, throttle was fully opened even tho scanner showed a max of 80%, Voltages are normal, at WOT the ecu went to open loop. So its probably the inability of the scanner to read, guess there is no real problem although the mech did notice my cable from the accel pedal needed some tightening to reduce the slack.

Thanks for all the awesome help!
