I kind of wonder if the younger one is ok. It seems to not have developed nearly as quickly and is not as strong as the older one.

I think its just that 3 days difference makes a big difference. E1 is older and pushy, that's for sure. He seems to have doubled in size in the past couple days. What I find of interest is Eagles eat everything - the entire fish, bones, teeth, and all. And, then they throw up what doesn't digest.

^^ I hope its just the age difference and I keep watching and hoping! Your latter thoughts are not very appealing, but that's an eagle's diet I suppose.

edit: Just watched E1 and E2 having a big fight while the parents are away. For a good while E2 was really giving as good as he got! YAY. I was so worried about him. After a bit he backed down and lowered his little head, but he's back up now and seems fine.

Lots of preening too. They're starting to feather and their feet are opening up. Pretty soon there will be lots of grasp and flap.

Another new thing...they are using their beaks to rearrange the nest, the same way the parents do.

Can't stop watching these little guys! Yesterday there was a plastic bag in the nest but I see its gone now. Little guys are snuggled in and one parent is with them. So cute. Our neighborhood eagles spend a lot of time in the lone pine tree overlooking the marsh. I'll try to see if I have some pics of them. They're a majestic site flying over the place -- all the little birds and squirrels disappear. I guess they don't want to be eagle food.

here's a pic of the eagles roosting 3 doors down. They overlook the marsh and I guess its a good feeding ground for them. My neighbor took this picture from her porch. The tree is at the edge of her lawn.

! I thought that was tin foil in the nest yesterday. Glad it is gone. Babies are still asleep, but I expect they will wake up soon, after the parent flies off and gets breakfast. The +1 seemed surprised a fish was still flapping in the nest. I told him it was in the water about 30 secs earlier! Doesn't get any fresher than that.
