Definitely! The snow in the Sierra's is record breaking. I can't get in to my place at Kennedy Meadows because the snow is so deep the road isn't even cleared, I hear. Of course, even if it was, I have .3 miles of dirt road that isn't cleared so I couldn't get in. BTW, Gary, I'll be in Denver, Niwot (outside of Boulder) and Colorado Springs Feb. 17th to 21st. I'm hoping for snow on the ground and a little to fall but not a lot. I'm a so cal wussy. I told my son and sister they have to cart my butt around since I'm scared to drive in ice and snow.

Well, we are having crazy weather so far this winter. Up and down, up and down. Yesterday and today, about 70. Tomorrow and Fri, about 40 with a bit of snow. Then about 70 on Sat. Fortunately, it will be too warm for much accumulation here. New York and NE are another story.

I was talking to my bro in Phoenix where we are headed next weekend. He said it is lovely there - sunny and 70s. I said "that's what we are having here!"

Spring weather is teasing us today it is 56 and party sunny! BUT WAIT! There's more! As in more winter. Expecting a nasty storm beginning tomorrow AM. Could see a foot of wet heavy snow. ICK, ICK, ICK!

On a very sad note, there was a lot of ice this AM to the north of us. Accidents and pile ups...and this sad story of someone trying to help someone else.
Good Samaritan struck, killed trying to help motorist stuck on ice

The cyclic weather draws out the new england experience in me.
We got about four inches of yuck yesterday but with the latter being 1 inch of frozen sleet.
this formed an ugly base that couldn't be plowed shoveled or snow-blowed.
forecast said nice warm day but return to freezing tonight and 6-12 inches tomorrow.
I had strong doubts that the warmth would actually melt through this ugly frozen layer. leaving a slippy slide base for tomorrow.
60 lbs of calcium chloride later, it was soft. My plow guy had the same thoughts and came by and plowed this afternoon.
for the most part I can see the driveway pavement. although I still have some cleanup before the refreeze.

Oh it's NASTY out there. I went to work until about noon. Our area had the change over to snow around 11:00. Driving home visibility was minimal. You can see a car in front and you are thinking, that guy needs to turn on his lights....as you get closer you realize the vehicle's lights ARE on. It's blowing, temp is dropping and we even had some thunder snow....We are under blizzard warning until 8:00 PM. 12-18" predicted. Hoping power stays on. We do have a small generator if needed.

Good luck Lainey. Post some pictures when it is safe to go out.

I was out today and got caught in a lake effect whiteout. Can someone tell me why half of the drivers are not smart enough to turn on there head lights?

Scoots, I ask myself the same question every time it's raining or after sunset or foggy here. In fact, I almost got T-boned once because I pulled out in front of a black car that was driving without lights on well after dark and only at the last minute did I see them. It happens way too much. Our Canadian neighbors have been smart enough to legislate having DRL's for at least 20 years so they don't have this problem. Why don't we???

18" is a LOT. Good luck. I was talking to a relative of the wife this afternoon who lives in Duxbury and that was the first I heard of 18" and he was saying some areas are forecasting 18+.
