Thumbs up Help with spots on painted plastic

Hey folks,

I've got a BB with some strange spots that have developed recently on the painted plastic pieces between the trunk and the softtop trim. Seemingly, they appeared after a rainy spell in which droplets might have remained on the trim for a day or two in a garage (read not direct sunlight) with temps around 40-50 degrees F. The spots are smooth and not raised from the rest of the trim piece.

From the image below, you can see faint white spots (as well as the more noticible ones), so it seems that it's not the first time this has happened (at least to my car). I've also noticed similar spotting on the other painted plastic body panels like the front and rear bumpers. I've seen at least one other BB owner report this as well on the front and rear bumpers. And the strange bit of it is, that the spots that develop on the bumper tend to go away in a few hours. These spots on the trunk trim piece have been there for approximately a week and a half now.

Thoughts on what happened?

Thanks!

Try the clay bar 1st and then use medium cut 3M Rubbing Comp and then wax and seal. This should remove the marks. How long has the marks been on the paint?

Unfortunately a clay bar cannot remove what isn't raised from the paint... And again, this seems to be an issue only with the painted plastic pieces (as you can see the other panels are swirl and spot free).

The plastic panels themselves have AIO, SGx3, and 2 layers of Poorboy's Natty Blue Paste Wax. I'm curious if I strip the protection what will happen. Will report back if that changes anything.

I also have this problem, but much worse. Browsing around the net one time I found replacement parts for this but can't seem to remember where I found them

Because they are plastic, it's doubtful that clay bar/polishing/waxing will save these. They seem easy to remove/replace, just one screw each.

Just because it does not feel raised, does not mean that clay will not remove it.

I would also suggest trying clay to see if it does remove the spots.

I had what I believe to be the same problem on my previous car.
It was a Nighthawk Black Pearl 2004 Civic Si.

The same type of white spots would appear on the bumpers after I washed and/or waxed the Si with temps around or below 40 degrees F.
They would fade with time and completely disappear when the temps got warmer.
Clay and polishes never had any effect on them.
I never figured out what they were and the paint looked absolutely flawless April through December.

It looks like these are also on plastic and are just taking longer to fade.

I'm with EOE. That looks, to me, like a clear coat problem. I hope it's not though. Good luck.

I have this as well on my car.

If someone could point me in the direction of some carbon fiber replacements, I won't worry about trying to polish them out.
