has s2ki gone downhill?
I ride in a cycling group. We always talk about how we would like to see more new people join our group. Then when someone new comes on a ride, we run them into the ground trying to prove something.
It is kind of like that here. The new people bring out the worst in the old members/guests.
If everyone sits around and assumes that this site will always be here and we don't have to do anything proactive to make it so, we are in for a surprise. Increased membership and diversity in the membership is what makes sites like these interesting to visit. Without interesting things to read, why continue to visit.
Just my $.02

It's one thing to inteligently discuss a point, it's quite another to call someone an assclown or stupid because you disagree. The standard operating procedure here is to first insult driving ability, and then start calling people stupid:
Example:
You must not be a very good driver if you think that. You must be stupid or something.
This is a silly argument, but it's used regularly, and it's part of the problem here. I'm all for open debate, but when it gets to the assclown level, I've already hit the ignore button.

Yes, there are lots of "you suck at driving" posts (I don't see too many of the stupid posts). I say just ignore those who post that.
On the other hand, people who post misinformation NEED to be correctly (like Chris said). If they are posting their misinformation as fact and refuse to listen to experience and evidence and only accept their own evidence of a failure, etc, then that person is stupid. Sorry, but that's true IMO. I remember people blaming Toda cams for breaking timing belts because they can't properly adjust the belt, and when presented with that evidence, they continue to claim that Toda cams break belts because of their own mistake. That is stupidity. This happens often on this forum although not as often as other forums.
There are two things that annoy me on forums. 1. misinformation and 2. people who can't admit they messed up, especially when it involves wrecking their car.
I'm not saying that I've never posted misinformation, but I'll admit when I'm wrong. I'm human, I make mistakes.
Haven't been on the site in quite some time. I'm always amazed at the S2KI User # in 5 digits!
My car will be 7 years old tomorrow and I have to say, the early days of this site were intoxicating as was driving the car. I learned a great deal and I'm sure if I spend more time on the site now, would continue to learn. It's just that it takes a little more effort to filter topics of interest/value.
My joy in driving this car hasn't diminished in 7 years and it's really great so many others can have the same opportunity.
Keep it up S2Ki! These are just growing pains.
