I think moderators should also go through more vetting, and be voted on for a given section. I think moderators should be able to lose their status through a complaint system.

The regular abuse shown by a recent mod suggests they like to have the last word on a topic and then lock the tread. Such behavior shouldn't be tolerated. It should be grounds for the stripping of their mod status.

I believe generally speaking mods should be humble people without chips on their shoulders. The above issues might help develop a qualification list and maybe even a probation period. Heck I probate my staff, mods should get it too.

Agreed. I know who this moderator is as well, and it annoys me every time he steps in and locks threads at will because he thinks it's cool to power trip not only on new posters but anyone he doesn't agree with. He thinks he owns the section. There is another who does this to a lesser extent in another section. It's old; Deterring users seems counterproductive to me. I agree with why some threads are moved, makes perfect sense. However, I don't agree with following the textbook rules to the capital R regarding closing topics that have been touched after a period of time. Working in Networking and IT since college, I am well aware that there is plenty of server space for as many posts as can be created. IPv6 FTW... (Just look at how much metadata the NSA can store on clouds with no issues ; It's a hell of a lot more than this board will ever have members or guests).

Agreed, overmoderated. I like the suggestion to let the problems come to you. If enough people complain, take a look at the problem. Otherwise let it be.

I agree as well that some (moderator)s take their power to the head and think they own the forum. Your a volunteer, nothing else that's it. I hate looking at topics and always seeing the same moderator being the last post, with just a single cold word and then closing the thread. I guess your cool. And I have to agree I've never understood the blocking of old threads. If anything I think that's better, that way when people search for something they get one nice big informative thread that actually helps and not a bunch of useless threads that have no useful information in them. But then who am I to speak up right? I also find it sarcastic at times. Someone posts a new topic asking a single question with something they need help with and everyone goes off on the person because they didn't search first, but then when they search and bump an old thread because they have additional questions it suddenly turns into the end of the world and the thread is now locked. I guess this forum is just anti-social and doesn't like discussion. Oh well, Stay classy guys.

"Nice first post.

I think it is fairly clear to anyone with an ounce or two of sense (or milliliter for those down under) that no one but Honda can answer the question of why Honda does what Honda does. It's as useful an exercise as me trying to answer the question of why you posted this post. The only one who knows is you. Why sit around and conjecture on something that can't be answered, is chock full of fail, and probably going to be completely unproductive other than providing a few people's fingers some typing exercise?"

"What a waste of perfectly good bandwidth."

Let me be the first to vote this power tripping mod out.

Your point about moderators and moderation is valid.

However I disagree that this forum is anti-social. If anything this is one of the better communities out there. Do people jump on people asking seemingly obvious questions. Sure they do and get flamed, but that is no different that other forums. Check out the regional forums and the friendships and bonds that members have established.

Again I will say (this to all the posters), please stop singling out a moderator or two. The issue may not be the person but rather some policy that while making sense at some point, no longer applies today. These are people like you and me so don't make it personal. Give them constructive feedback and trust that things will change.

For all you know one of these guys might help you out when you are in a fix.

As far as voting for Moderators goes, I think the Site Admins should have the privilege of picking the Mods. That has how it has been all along and it has always worked for the most part. COs are picked by vote as they should. A moderator is picked for her/his wisdom, judgement capability and knowledge versus popularity.
