I talked to Redell Honda in Murfreesboro about my problem with the sot top, and they said that even though I have a extended warranty bumper to bumper 100 thousand mile it would not be covered since it's not a recall just a bulletin. I myself think driving in a thunderstorm with holes in my freking top is a safety hazard, you? I mean I understand if this was due to a usual wear and tear, but it's not, they obviously recognize that there latch can cut the top open due to the sharp edges, but it's not a recall?

what does everyone else think?

I dunno - I'd be inclined to fiddle with it myself & move on - how big a hole is it? @ the same time though it would seem that what they are telling you is due to my preconceived hatred of dealerships...

Don't get me wrong I'm more than capable of fixing it, it's just that they know it's a problem but they just dismiss it as nothing. I've owned several Hondas over the years and never had a complaint, but this just seems wrong to me thats all.

Damn, Cody - this sucks. Did they at least recognize what the bulletin said about the sharp edge on the latch? Sounds like they just skimmed the TSB and read what they wanted to.

Interesting...from what I've read in S2000 Talk, some guys have benefitted from talking to the District Manager. I bought my car at Redell, and my wife's van. I'm due for an oil change...think I'll get it done there, and at the same time voice my concerns about the top, flash the TSB in their face, and ask what they'll do about it it if/when I start seeing some wear.

They should replace it, there is a small bur on the metal you can grind down is what catches and rubs. I had my top replaced by Honda on my 04 when I had it.

Well I can tell you Honda of North America wil deny your claim. I had the exact same thing happen with the driver's side latch punching through the top, plus the cut on the passenger's side in the B-pillar area. they said it was "normal wear", even though we all know it's not. THey also said they wouldn't do anything because I bought it used, and because the previous owner hadn't complained about the top.

Bottom line: It's a design flaw, and Honda won't cover it. Anyone up for a Class Action filing?

I had a rip on both passenger and driver side in my 01. Not once did water leak in, even in really bad storms with heavy heavey rains.

Its kinda hit & miss with the dealers from what Ive seen.

Was your car under warranty at the time? I'm wondering if this matters a damn to them - as the TSB states "warranty item" right on the page in big, bold letters.
