Hunting down S2000, thngs to look out for...
Hello all.
After deciding on my next car being an S2000, I just wanted to check if there was anything I should look out for (common troubles?). I have read about the timing chain tensioners being a common pain. Is there anything I should be looking out for? I am looking for an 2002 - 2004.
Thanks in advance,
Gaz

The Geo bushes can be a very expensive pain in the butt....around £1000.Check for crap build-up on the lip of the rear arch and in places like the point where the front of the rear, and rear of the front meet the sill. This is where the crap builds up and stays if the last owner doesnt make a point of clearing it out.I think Uncle Fester gets a bit anal about his but for good reason.

Be aware that your chosen choice of years will present you with both pre and post facelift cars. The differences are mostly cosmetic, but the 04 + cars were a little softer and some say safer at the limit, but it depends on your skills as a driver as always.
I'd test both, and dont rule out JDM imports either as 99% of the parts are the same, and sometimes you'll find a cleaner car at the year with regards to seized bushes etc. The cars changed a little every couple of years, with a '99 (MY00) car representing the most spartan of the lot. Aside from seized bushes (the repair cost can be greatly lessened if you do it yourself, or maybe find a knowledgable local member to help/do it for you!), soft top wear, or even a TCT rattle (easy fix) they are very robust cars, as you'd expect from Honda.
Just buy with the same caution you'd use on any other car with regards to accident damage etc, service neglect etc and you'll be grand.
