Toying with upgrading stock stereo. Not hugely bothered about a huge all singing and dancing set up. Think I will keep the stock head unit and get a 2nd hand CD changer and upgrade the front speakers.

I have seen the sizes etc of the speakers that will fit, are they any particular makes/models that people are pretty happy with given that they will be the only speakers?

I could be persuaded to upgrade a bit more, I just can't be bothered with the hassle and hate paying someone else to put it in (but don't want to do it myself)

A supplementary question then - what set up could I get for around 300 notes?

MP3 would be cool, I presume there is a way to get all your tunes on it?

If so, that sounds good

How do these MP3 head units actually work? (I sound like an old man!)

Spend 50 sheets and hook up some rear speakers to the stock HU. Big improvement

its not like a hard drive, it just plays CD's that you have copied MP3's onto.

On the basis you casn fit approx 10albums in MP3 format onto a CD you wont really need an autochanger would you.

You can also get an adapter which allows you to plug yourr ipod in (if you have one) which enables you to scrap CD's completely.

That does sound good...

So Alpine mp3 headunit, some new front speakers (if the headunit is 4 channel will it sound a lot different given only the front speakers will be wired?)

Is the head pod the only place you can put rear speakers?

A Sony CD/mp3 player, dash interface and a set of Kenwood 3ways for the doors less than 200 notes and sounds good enough to me. Roof down over the ton and you can still hear the tunes.
