Oil: fewer top-ups with fully synth or not?
Been using Magnatec 10w-40 for the last oil changes, but on this MY00, it seems to use 1 litre per 1000 miles (at least) compared to when I used fully synthetic on my previous (newer) S2000s.
Will switching to fully synth mean fewer top-ups or not? Noticed it when I switched from full mineral to fully synth in the past.

I would have thought it was the viscosity that decided more than the molecular make up?
I have experienced far greater synth use on my bikes, but the reverse on the cars for a same grade.
FWIW.

I found the opposite. I was going through more than 1 litre every 800 miles with 5w-40 fully synth. Swapped to magnatec 10w-40 about 2.5k ago and only used about 1 litre since then.
My tail pipes have been staying cleaner also. They used to get covered in black crap within 100 miles or so but not anymore.
From what I've read there is no pattern and everyones car is different.

i did a check after my 1k miles road trip, and it doesn't seem to have used any oil.... so i would like to believe every car is different, and could also be dependent on how the car was driven....
if it helps, my car is using silkolene pro s...

My S did use more Semi synth than fully synth.
As it stands, It uses next to no oil within the first 3500 - 4000 miles of an oil change, then just drinks it.
So I just change it after every 4k now
I have used the Mobil Super S 10-40 semi synth
Si9lkolene Pro-S 5-40 Fully Synth
Castrol Edge 5-30 Fully Synth
And now I have Castrol Edge Sport 0-40 Fully Synth.
As of this moment the Edge 5-30 has performed the best in terms of longevity.
Bearing in mind, I do drive the car hard (Never from cold with and avg of 20mpg over 10k miles) and i'm pretty sure that the vast increase in consumption is simply down to the oil breaking down at a molecular level.

Anyone used amasol (sorry i can never remember the proper name), im thinking of trying 10w30 as my car is high mileage.
I'm liking the castrol edge 5w30 though and will use ebay for sure next time, rather than rip off halfords.
I have tried.
mobil1 0w40 : gulped it, maybe too thin
shell helix ultra 5w40 : yup gulped that too
motul 10w40: and that
Edge is the quietest and uses least amount.

Kiwi is also a champion of it.
If you do a bit of searching (and as the afore mentioned Mr Kiwi told me), the F20C seems to react infavourably to Mobil 1.
I have also had comments from Paul S2K_Nut about how his car was drinking 1litre of Ultra-Helix per 300 miles!!
I would really like to try that Royal Purple, but I imagine you are looking at

[quote name='Hypersonik' date='Jan 6 2009, 11:16 PM'] Our very own AquilaEagle uses Amsoil. I know this because I put it in.
