There's a Skyline round the corner from my in-laws in South East London and the registration on the front is so tiny you can barely read it - how he hasn't been pulled and had it confiscated I don't know.

Yeah be careful about displaying your new reg before you're entitled to as my mate got in trouble for that and nearly got 6 points for no insurance, no tax etc as he'd put his new plate on and got pulled for using his phone..D'oh!
As for plates, dont take the piss with altered letters or ridiculous fonts, just alter the spacing and u'll be fine. Got pulled a couple of weeks ago for 'alledgedly' speeding (a telling off actually!) and they never mentioned the reg plates.. Mine below with last 2 letters missing, just got it all squeezed together, no spaces at all, looks tidy thou!

The silly thing is that by re-spacing the letters you could make it easier to read, and easier for someone to remember. If they saw S200 DFG for example, they may not remember it, but S200D FG on a Honda S2000 may stick in their head.
Keep the sizing and font the same, and you shouldn't have too many problems. If you drive like a loon, this will attract unwanted attention and the copper will also mention your plate.

I've been pulled for running a red "I thought it was still orange office". He pulled up beside me in his 4x4, I could hardly see him from my seating position He never said anything about the plates. I've past many cop cars and been followed by them too. Never any hassle about the plate. Raced one off a roundabout on a DC, beat him and never got pulled. That volvo just couldn't do it
My plate is an S200 O-- and reads S2000 --.

I can recommend this site to have your number plates made up. They do loads of designs and type set and they are good quality. Mind they're not cheap though.
Don't go for the honey comb - it's a bit to busy IMO
