Sorry Kelk, it very rarely 'just happens', there is always a reason and I would say only in a very small percentage of cases is the car itself to blame.
There can be variables such as diesel, mud, ice on the road, but then one drives at a speed appropriate to the conditions - you say "In hindsight I should have just rolled i.e. no application of the gas pedal.."

Soooooo......doesn't that mean you agree you were at fault, even unknowingly. And being aware now that this might happen will make you a better driver and more able to anticipate the conditions where this situation might happen.

Interesting how nobody ever wants to admit that the driver may be to blame.
I've never had a car that crashed by itself or while it was parked on the drive.
Powerful RWD cars without traction control WILL catch you out in the wet. Just watch an F1 race as soon as it starts raining......
Mind you F1 drivers have TC.... so whats their excuse!

doing in airfield day just shows how much you can actually get away with.....it's having the confidence to 'go with the car' and ride it out....not easy unless you've practiced
