That's exactly what we were discussing at work. It's one of my pet hates - people not using the slip road for acceleration.
Theres a few on here who successfully used them for deceleration too.
Very fast deceleration.

Can I claim to be a chav now, since I effectively have an ASBO warning, or "Public Nuisance Notice", as it says on the ticket?

Scott,

Only just seen this. Only you know how much you were 'enjoying' VTEC up the inside of the other traffic

I would suggest you write and ask for an explanation of why the officers considered your actions warranted a S.59 warning .... but, I would guess undertaking slower moving traffic accelerating hard (if you were) when said traffic can legally pull to the nearside if they wanted (and it was clear) may well be considered to be driving without consideration to those road users and may be considered to cause them annoyance due to the manner of driving.

That's a guess - as I say, only you know how 'spirited' your acceleration was

It is not an offence to accelerate to the speed limit - but the circumstances you do it in may make it an offence. I doubt noise, given the road, had anything to do with the officers actions.

If you feel the officers manner was poor then write in. If his boss keeps getting letters saying he is a bit arrogant then he is going to get fed up with him as he has to sort each letter personally ! The officer is likely to get a word in his ear. It may make no difference as there are idiots in every job - but may make him think about how he talks to people a bit.

I think S.59 is a good piece of legislation .... if used appropriately. I would not have written it quite as it is - but then who am I and to comment further on an the merits of any legislation may bring me into the realms of being disciplined under our new discipline regulations

S.59 tends to get used in London at car meets to stop people driving like idiots .... The counties seem - according to people on the internet - to use it a lot more and interpret it differently than I perhaps would.

One thing I saw mentioned by others which I feel I should to reply to -

Creating PNC markers on cars is not a simple thing and to get it done to upset a motorist could potentially get an officer sacked. If you think an officer will do that then go ahead. There is an audit trail for stuff like that and if created and then subject to a complaint the officer will have quite a bit of explaining to do. A quick search because of the 'smell of cannabis' is not going to result in you being marked up as possibly concerned in importation of drugs .... I hope

Anyway, write in - can't do any harm.

Thanks for the clarification John.

I can see how it could possibly be construed as annoying to the people sat in the queue of traffic, and yes they could legally pull into "my" lane, but it would still be up to them to make sure the road is clear, bearing in mind it it an NSL stretch of road.

And I was enjoying Vtec to it's fullest, in second gear at least. C'mon, we've had snow all year until now. I was making up for lost time.

I am more inclined just to write regarding the officer's attitude at this point. It takes no effort just to be a little polite, and he was just very unpleasant.
