Speaker Upgrade
Gents, as we all know the stereo system in this amazing car is a bit pants.
Are there any speakers out there which I can buy straight off the shelf (halfords etc) and fit without having to cut etc.
Im not prepared to change the full system at the moment due to poor finances so I see this as the best and cheapest way to improve things.
Any comments / help would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
AnDy.

Don't know what all the fuss is about
I listen to Classic FM and the sound is fine - I'm not looking for true hi-fi, just a pleasant sound. With the hood down, but windows up I have to turn the volumn up to 24/25 but I have never noticed any distortion. With windows down also it's more difficult, but do we really need cool music to 'soothe the furrowed brow'?
Just enjoy
The weather has been a blessing - hood down almost permanently and to hell with the air quality in central London.

I was also concerned about cutting the casing. In the end I had to as I wanted some Infinity Reference speakers (adjustable co-ax tweater). I've never had any problems apart from the door release bar rattling at high volumes.
I thought having the tweater would stop the "leg effect" but it didn't. You'll need to get separate tweaters to stop the leg effect (but then it'll be really obvious to the tea leaves).
Once you change the speakers you'll want to ditch the pile of poo (nee OEM radio).

You might want to think about replacing the head unit before the speakers. Check to see what voltage it can punt out. If it is any less than 4V changing the speakers might not fix anything, especially the distortions at high volume. The original sound system in my 406 Coupe was pathetic (distortions at low volume!) but replacing the unit with a decent model fixed everything.

I listened to the suround system that are an option on porsche boxsters.
Basically it sounded like $hit. Plenty of money for gimics that are menu driven. No good when U are driving.
I am planning to cut the door pannels to fit a component speaker set. Its worth it.
Also Speaker manufactures do not replace speakers when the coil burns out. This is caused by distortion from the head unit!
Has not happeded to me yet!
