i have been running oem size (215/245) star specs (on ap2v1s) and i love them, but for my next set i definitely want to upgrade to 255s in the rear. im having a hard time deciding if i should keep the 215s up front, or move up to 225s. my car is stock height so im not concerned with rubbing, more worried about making the steering feel too heavy as well as sidewall flex up front.

has anyone put 225s in the front and wished they had kept the 215s?

I had 225/255 on stock AP2 wheels, and it was lowered, without any rolling at all, and I never rubbed.

I never once regretted the decision.

My theory is if you go one size wider in the rear, do so in the front with AP2 wheels. 225/255 is a great combo.

You will have more over steer with a 255/215 combo but you probably wont notice it unless you were driving aggressively.

How are these tires on AP1 16" rims? Would you guys suggest upgrading to a 17" wheel to run these tires?

I need to replace the rears only on my AP2. Has anyone run Star Specs in rear but RE050 (until I can wear these out) in the front? Would this drastically upset the balance/handling of the car? This is not my preferred setup but I still have ~50% left on the fronts.

Yes yes yes. If at all possible, do upgrade. See my other posts in this thread.
You forgot the IMO.

I ran through a set of these on my ap1s. Grip was substantial and tread life wasn't bad either, for the way I was driving.
