Star specs are perfectly safe when it's cold... as long as it's not snowing.

Regarding those idiots that crash on cold days, 9 times out of 10 it's not the tire's fault. If it's 35 out and you're bombing the mountain on tires that aren't warmed up yet how can you blame the tire lol.

Tires don't warm up on the street, and I've tried the Specs myself this winter, they are not as safe as a correct temperature tire in freezing temps.

If possible, go with two sets of tires like posted above. Around here, AP1 wheels are pretty cheap as extras. I have 3 sets Only takes about 20 minutes to swap them.

I don't have any experience on all seasons, so I wouldn't know of any others.

Theres nothing wrong with running summer tires in the winter so long as you know how to drive. You shouldnt be putting any pressure on your tires sub zero anyways even if you have snow tires you can hit ice and it wont matter what you run. I run max perf summer tires and they're fine so long as I drive like a normal person, they arent as good as snows but it beats having to have multiple sets of rims.

If you know your tires aren't warm then don't drive hard. I think it's common sense.
I've driven star specs in near freezing temps, (low 30s, as low as it gets here in norcal) and as long as I'm driving responsibly I don't find them "unsafe" by any stretch.

Snow is a different story though.

Okay, I wouldn't be pushing the car on my commutes, so I guess I have a bit less to worry about. Will just drive it same as I do the beater all winter long. I'm going to go with the Star's in the 225 / 255 setup on my AP2s

The Star Specs are not to be trifled with in below 40F degree weather. A local here just wrecked his S last week due to summer tires on a cold day, please don't make that mistake.
Sounds like he needed to be more aware of the driving conditions. The tires didn't crash his car, he did

Actually Dunlop recommends not to drive these tires during freezing or near freezing temps. From what I've been told by industry reps, its more of a case of the rubber compound hardening and cracking at those temps than a case of grip level.

Can you run the star specs in the 265 size in the rear mounted on
AP2 V1 wheels with a 1" drop via Eibachs?

Anyone running 265 Star Specs in the rear? I am in the market for
new tires and if I can go to 265s in the rear without rub (1" drop on
Eibachs) I would like to do that. Would be put on AP2V1 wheels.
I am running the 265s on stock wheels in the rear. I am at stock ride height, springs, and max -camber. I get just a little rub if I have my shocks on stiff, and a lot if they are on soft without the fenders rolled.

I'm looking for a daily tire that I can take on the track more as an occasional thing than as my focus for the purchase. I like the Star Spec's, but the fact that I'm in Buffalo has me worried about driving them once winter, but it is still near freezing. The thought of a light dusting in April and them being completely useless was also something I was trying to take into account.
I would not use the Star Spec's in Buffalo in the winter. I think Continental ExtremeContact DWS would be a better choice. I have not run them but have heard good things about them. I love my Star Spec's but no way would I want to drive on them in the snow.

You may want to get 2 sets. One for track days/summer and another one for winter.
