i didn't get the S because of the way the vtec kicked in, i got it cause it revs high and the way it looks and there was no way i was getting a mazda. i looked at the sport pkg elise but couldn't see it as a daily driver and the boxster s but it didn't feel right getting it, don't ask me why cause i love the GT3.

i love high revving cars over f/i cars or 6-8cylinder powered cars that rev to 6k. show me something that revs north of 8k in a production car and you have my attention.

i never really knew what vtec was until i got my s2000. my buddy liked it, but it sounded like a ~+20hp engine technology. and i think that's about what it is. VTEC effectively lets you run a more aggresive cam without the penalty when you're driving to get groceries (fuel econ) or idling (rough).

if FI being is compared to VTEC directly, then yes, VTEC is overrated. VTEC is exactly the same as running an aggresive cam. with few exceptions, adding FI >> cam upgrade

If you can't feel it your Vtec fluid isn't full enough

I have a single turbo FD I run at 14psi. Highway only I see 16-17mpg with occasional bursts of speed. Daily driving with gratuitous bursts of speed I see 14-16mpg. On the track I see 7-8mpg with OMGZHANGSONFORYOURLIFE bursts of speed.

As you can see, for me it's not possible to drive the car without mashing the pedal . I just tell people I see an average of 15mpg combined, well worth it.

back then when I drove a Rx7 turbo, I definitely felt the turbo kick in. My friend who also got turbo kick in while cornering that 360 the car and damage it with frame damage.

SO yes.. turbo felted. maybe that rx7 turbo was tuned good.

Imo it is overrated, but it;s a fantastic technology that allows you to extract that much more out of a powerplant.
When I first test drove the S, I really felt it but now after owning it for a while, it's just audible more than anything.

Man, what's up with all the newbs fighting? There are more people on here with less than a year (many with less than six months) shooting their mouths off than I've seen in a while.

Sheesh.

For a second, I thought I went into S2000 Talk considering the nature of some posts here.
