Hey guys i was wondering can you REALLY feel vtec? I have rode in my friends FD rx7 with sequential turbos and truthfully i never felt a "kick" or hear anything. So is vtec just a over rated honda thing?
I know rx7 does not have any variable valve timing but i figured if i couldnt feel turbos then why would vtec be any different.
Vtec is a technological innovation to extract more power and save gas at the same time. Because Honda had invented it, now virtually all automakers have it (in one name/form or another).

Is it overrated? Is the air you breathe overrated?

The answer is: Heck no! It's a break-through innovation.

Ok, VTEC is overrated! Please tell all automakers, that includes BMW, Toyota, etc., to stop making it at once! That overrated thing belongs to Honda.

Honda VTEC = high tech in the 90's

Honda VTEC = nothing special in the 00's

Honda VTEC in 2008 = Holding Honda back (in performance)

More so, I would take a Honda 2.0 liter engine with a turbo putting out 250 hp over a 200 version with DOHC VTEC.

Even more so: I would take an S2000 with the Sti 2.5 liter 300HP engine in it over the current DOHC VTEC variant.

i didn't get the S because of the way the vtec kicked in, i got it cause it revs high and the way it looks and there was no way i was getting a mazda. i looked at the sport pkg elise but couldn't see it as a daily driver and the boxster s but it didn't feel right getting it, don't ask me why cause i love the GT3.

i love high revving cars over f/i cars or 6-8cylinder powered cars that rev to 6k. show me something that revs north of 8k in a production car and you have my attention.

Just wait till Honda makes direct injection + Vtecs + whatever they want to call it.

I bet they can get 250-260hp out of a 2 liter 4 banger

Well the GSR is a Honda with Vtec...

I think he refers to 170hp car without Vtec.
