most modern bimmers. easy as cake.
my 1999 328ci was pretty easy to work on. just unscrew the cap and replace the filter element. But the FJ's placement is just user-friendly to the max.

My sr20det 240sx is the worst. It's under the intake and you can unscrew it from above but it has to go out from the bottom. Put a new one in from below and get up to screw it on from up top. The S gets taken in for oil changes because the shop charges $5 to do the labor if I bring a filter and oil

The old Ferrari 308s had easy filter access too:

Not as sweet as the FJ with the shroud. I'd always take an ice pick and poke a hole in the top of the filter on the Ferrari to let as much oil as possible drain out to limit the mess before unscrewing the filter.

Lotus Elise oil change is a bit of a pain since you have to remove the rear belly pan to get to the drain and filter.
I love that one

I have to agree on the Toyota filter orientation being one of the worst. Placement is great but it sure took one dumb bastard to decide to place it face down.

Someone talked about there being a lip on there to supposedly catch anything that drains out..I'm going to have to call on that one. That little lip couldn't hold a milk cap full of oil let alone a filter full. I changed it twice and said F' it after that, now the dealer can deal with the mess.

I think they did it this way on purpose to discurage owners from doing there own maintenance. Well, if that was the plan it worked for me
Lol. The newer Toyota filters on top is very simple, and there is no mess at all. There's a rubber cap on the bottom of where the filter sits. If you can't locate it, look between the filter and the "lip" and you'll see a little hole. This hole leads to the drain point. When removed, old oil that sits in that "lip" completely drains out. What I always do is take the rubber cap off, jam an empty bottle of oil into the drain point, then take off the filter. It's only about 1/6th of a quart of oil that comes out of the filter.

You're welcome.

Agree on the post about the 1.8 Miata, what a PITA, took me hours plus many cut/bruised knuckles the first time. Once you got the hang of it, it was ok, just turn the wheels to the left & reach behind the passenger wheel well. Could have been designed much better though.

02 Accord is straightforward once you find where it is located! As someone said though, if you are not careful you end up with a well oiled arm.
