The Formula 1 Thread - 2014
Watching the race on Sunday I can't help but get this nagging feeling, and maybe it's just the inherent cynic in me, that we aren't watching real racing. Hamilton has the swagger of a man that knows he could win with square wheels.
The slow pit stops I got, why throw away a race when the driver can make up the time easily enough. But it's like watching him toy with Rosberg the way on split tyre strategies he's letting him gain on him, just not quite enough to pass.
Last year Vettel cruised to every victory. It got slated as boring and even worse, the tv camera's hardly featured him. Not much use if your race team is a marketing platform.
This year Merc are even more dominant. They can't afford for it to look too boring as it means no TV time and more chance of the FIA stepping in the spice up the show ruining the formula they have mastered best. I hope Rosbergs competitiveness is real, but I suspect even if it wasn't they would have the drivers put on a show.

Monaco next. Lots of opportunity to crash there.

That is just ridiculous.
Rosberg (unlike Webber) is a very strong team mate, and an excellent driver, he is full on a competitor of Hamilton who is naturally talented and therefore slightly advantaged over Rosberg race to race, some drivers are just better than others, not all footballers can be as good as Cristiano Ronaldo even though they are professional footballers ... the same is true for F1 drivers.

I don't doubt Rosbergs talent though. How ever much people would like to say Schumacher was past it, he never had a car capable of going on the attack, but his defensive driving and that pole he set at Monaco to me shows he could still hustle a car, and Rosberg pretty much had him pegged. Being paired with Hamilton is making him even better as he gets to study where he makes his time up, he probably still lacks that last 10th the car is ultimately capable of. But I think he'll get pole in Monaco which is pretty much a guaranteed win.
Lewis will place higher than Rosberg at Monaco, both in quali and the race ... I won't say either of them will necessarily win it as Monaco is a lottery, but Lewis will better Rosberg (mechanical or crash issues not withstanding) is my view.
