Kia e-Niro key facts

What Car? Real Range253 miles

Top speed104mph

0-60mph6.9sec

But a price of almost £37k. You need to be saving a **** ton of money to make the purchase cost palatable. Unless you lease it at which point who gives a **** about what it's worth after 2 or 3 years. Equally, as a second hand buy it'll stink because people would rather lease it new than pay for old hat tech.

A computer year is 90 days ( or was the last time i worked it out) in terms of progress, E cars are going to age at about the same rate i'd guess.
I agree and also with your comments about your Fiesta v electric.

Be interesting to see what the E costs

say its £30k and the Festa is 20 (assumed the cheapest model there, the more pricey one is 26k!)

the E has a 35kwh battery and 125 mile range

lets assume charging is 90pc efficient so 39kwh to charge.. at 12p thats £4.66 (its actually more efficient i believe)
80 charges gets you 10k miles
And costs £372

petrol is 130p a litre
5.90 for a gallon
40.4 mpg combined on that 3 banger
247 gallons per 10k or
£1457

so each 10k saves you £1085
tax another 145
servicing more pricey in the fiesta

so it might cost you 1500 quid more to run the festa.. pays off pretty quick that price difference, especially if you benchmark vs the 26k one

and a harsh riding family car, been there, got the badge

doesnt mean i hate ICE.. i have a few still

All assuming that you buy new cars ( I don't and won't) so for me at least, it's a massive jump in outlay either intitially or monthly.

I'd rather sell my dignity and buy a Gen 1 Insight.

aiy. me too usually though had a few new bikes now

but its a piffling comparison vs a 2yo car or something.. for less than a new Fiesta ST you can buy my (old!) 414bhp V8 M3.. that's 5 more cylinders and double the power and much better noise, much higher bills too! haha. 18mpg avg and similar speed.

be interesting to see the depreciation. the teslas currently do ok

I think we view this from the same angle, just with different disposable income levels. Currently ... ( you joker ) they do but they will fall from favour like a massive unwanted stone as soon as perception changes or the next new thing comes along.

Our power network will simply not cope with the drain if this stuff goes mainstream.

I dont know about infra, we seem to be lagging on charging points for sure. A good chunk of our power is now from renewables though, we arent as bad as we were 10 years ago. That can only be a good thing.

i’d enjoy an ST more but its not about that for this car, its for lugging the kid round and having zero emissions is attractive, new tech is attractive, the thought that has gone into the car i like.. as you know you find a lot more fun on your bike than any car

The S/H market for EVs will be interesting. They're novel ATM so generally seem to hold value.

But buying an obsolete one with a tired battery and having the latter refurbed might be an interesting proposition.

My client plans to run his Leaf into the road and repair or replace the battery when required.

Then again, Gen-Z has been fully indoctrinated by this sort of stuff (Greta Garbage?), so the demand for Honda es (that looks incorrect; Honda MDMAs) as learner cars might be very strong and SUVs might be trash - TFFT!.

Disagree to some extent - whilst the Sportage we had in the US of A a couple of years back was not what i'd call sporty, it wasn't a dull slouch either. Nor is the current Mazda CX-5, test drive one and for the size it is, it rides AND handles very nicely.

The i3 we have as our company car however does not. It's the 'sporty' model with the range extender engine but it rides like wooden wheels on marbles. I think a horse and cart would be a more plush experience.

But the main issue with driving is doing the kind that you get enjoyment out of and whilst the Fiesta is a fun place to be, most of the roads, most of the time are not. At which point I'd rather be insulated and isolated from it.

So maybe it's best to have a Monaro and work from home and only do the kind of driving that makes smile when no one else is using the roads.
