Don't buy it. You don't deserve this car if you're having doubts.

When making a decision to buy something that costs this much money and something that has such an "emotional" attachment, one always has doubts till answers are found.

I'm yet another new member thinking of buying, nerntz nerntz so pardon my newbness.

I had my heart set on a wrx as my next car for awhile, but I happened to come upon a MY00 s2k, 27500mi, at $23k, which brings this car in my price range. I know that price is pretty decent, but how good is it? Is that enough for me to make a somewhat impulsive buy or is that an average price?

Well ok not totally impulsive, I'm totally in love with the car.. but one of the things I'm concerned about is the manual transmission... Is this a hard car to learn how to stick shift on for someone that's never used one before?

Thanks ~

Although this has been done by many, you might consider getting lessons either from a driving school or from a very patient friend with a manual car. The S2000's tranny can be very expensive to repair if you break something. There are enough people unfamiliar with this car who worry themselves to death about the little peculiarities of the car when it's "normal". You don't need the added burden of having to wonder if you were the one who caused it (the abnormality).

MasterPain,

That sounds a wee bit high to me, but I haven't looked around much. Have a peek on ebaymotors.com just for a quick sanity check on the price.

Judging from the posts on this board, you'll get a strong feeling that there are many owners who drive their cars very hard. It's gonna be a little difficult for you to judge the condition of the transmission, especially if you're new to a stickshift. I have an '02, and the shifter is very smooth and easy. It compares favorably to any other stickshift I've driven over the years. There's nothing challenging about it at all. That said, there have "TSB" (service bulletins) on the S transmission -- you should find out if any TSBs have been done on the car. Also, you should be sure the spark plug recall has been done (or gets done when you get the car).

I hope it all works out... I like the thought of a used S changing hands to someone who really wants one! Best of luck.
Greetings from MA!

Peh... so is a TSB different than a recall?

It looks to go for 26-28k on Ebay, which is consistant with dealer prices in my area.

The car I'm checking out is repossesed, a local repo guy picked it up from a credit union in Florida. All I know is that the rear tires were replaced, which probably means the dude that couldn't afford the car beat the crap out of it when he heard he was losing it.

I appreciate the tips.. anything else in particular I should look for when I go check out the car?
