Should I Buy An S2000?
I had one for a week, but i returned it (and lost a lotta money dammit). I drove it to work one day and decided that i couldn't use it as my daily driver (I work in DC, ~40 mile commute, it had an unbearably rough ride). BUT, I look forward to buying one again, after i get a daily driver. An absolute blast to drive, I miss it.
i am going through this delemema at this moment. i have always driven european sports cars and until i drove the s2000 i considered it a miata with a higher price. the moment i sat in it i fell in love. this car feels so pure to drive. i currently have a c43 amg mercedes and before that had e36 m3 and an e30 m3 before that. i have always valued cars that were a joy to drive. at this moment the company i work for is offering me a company car. and i am toying on what decision to make...3 months ago this wouldnt even be a decision. an e46 m3 (2002) or an s2000. yes i am between these 2 cars and the problem is everything tells me go for the m3 but my heart tells me go for the s2k. i will be living out in the desert in the near future (rancho mirage) and i cant think of anything better than waking up to a sunny day and vtecing to work with the top down
..to me life dosent get any better. yes one car is worth near 2 times as much, and yes one is the yard stick to which many cars is measures...but i have driven both and the only thing the m3 is better at is very high speed corners....you need to set the weight in a corner on an m3...where as in the s2000 there isnt any weight to set
. i will make my decision by the first of the year...and it will be an s2000 unless my boss tells me i need a car that is more pratical.

That wouldn
I guess what I meant, Bill, is that they could build Honda brand "cachet" even if they couldn't meet the demand for more cars than they're already selling. It's astonishing how few people out there even know about the S2000. Honda, as a company, doesn't get any "glow" from the existence of the S.
I will say that Honda's a damn clever company though. If the demand were there, they would find a way to make more of 'em. But that was clearly not in their plan, as we all agree.
That said, I just think it all speaks volumes to the masterful way that Honda met its mission with the S. They wanted to build an uncompromised enthusiast's car at a low price and they did that. They didn't gussy it up with amenities. They didn't jack the price up year to year... (although, I'm sorry, Bill, that you guys are getting raped in the Denver area!)
I just find it astonishing that Honda's never done anything to draw the S into the overall brand recognition. Think how often a Miata shows up in a Mazda commercial, or a Vette in a Chevy commercial. I mean, it just flies in the face of standard practice.
Not that I mind at all....

I just wanted to say "hi" - I'm koala from Clubrsx.com - I've got like 5,800 posts over there. So if I end up buying an S2K, you'll see me quite a bit over here, too!
I wanted to thank everyone for such a great list. I test drive a 2001 Silver/Black S2K today! If I like it, and I can work out a good deal on it, I'm going to be buying it and trading in my RSX Type S.

Hope to see more of you both here and in person. If you are interested in coming to any of our get togethers in Calgary, please PM me and I'll include you in our meet announcements. There are about a dozen of us and we are a fairly informal and loosely knit bunch of S2000 owners. A few of us gather from time to time just to hang out. We go for drives when the weather cooperates.
