I was very interested in your reply. I've recently become interested in the s2000. Sorry that I'm late to the party. This car seems to be what I'm looking for: Great looks, lots of fun, Honda reliability. On the flip side, I don't want to plunk down some significant cash and find out that it's not what i thought it was going to be. I don't personally know anyone who owns the car, so you guys and girls are my best shot at some info.

I have a Lexus ES300, that my wife uses daily, so if i need more room, I/we can always take the Lexus. I was thinking of buying the S2000 and using it for my daily commute to work, and on weekends.

My main question is how practical is it to use this car as a daily commuter vehicle? How does it handle in rain? How does it handle in snow? How warm is the cockpit in cold weather? How bad will the maintenence costs be if I but 12K miles per year on this car?

Thanks in advance for the info.

rdapuzzo - to answer some of your questions:

Practicality - since you have a "back up" car, the S2000 will do quite nicely for you for the things you want to do with it.
Rain - Very good till your tires get worn down a bit but regardless of the tire condition, if you do something dumb, it'll bite ya.
Snow - ONLY with snow tires will this car be fine in winter. I've driven mine for 2 winters now and it is, for me, more fun in winter than in summer. Do a search using my username and "snow" or "winter" and you'll see lots of comments and pics on this subject.
Warmth - this car has one of the best heaters of any car on the road. If you plug the block heater in when parked outside for extended periods, you'll have heat almost immediately. I've driven mine as cold as -35*C.
Maintenance costs - I don't know. I do all my own. But I've heard that Honda can really ding you good on this front.

Personally, I think you should buy a sports car because it speaks directly to your soul. You see it, you want it. You drive it, you want it more! After owning a couple of Preludes in the mid and late 80's, I knew I'd want a roadster if Honda ever delivered. They sure made us wait, but most of us agree it was well worth it.

Most of what I feel about the S2000 has already been said. But, I'll add these two things since they haven't been mentioned...

Your fellow s2ki.com owner community. This is a fantastic board for car talk and a wealth of information. Every time I look around, I learn something new about my car.

here here!!
my g/f has the hair issue with the convertible. but other then that..she's perfect!!
her hair is about 2 1/2 ft long though..so it gets some mighty rats when the top is down. If you are only about 5ft - 5 ft 3 in you don't get nearly the wind that taller people do in the S2000. A friend of mine road in my car and she is only like 4 '11 and she commented how little wind there was in the cabin. I at 6'1" beg to differ!!

s2k_redhead, I know the real reason is that you scare the bejeebers out of your friends when you take 'em sideways out in Laurel Canyon They're just telling you they don't want their hair mussed so you don't think they're wussies!

The S2000 is a truely amazing vehicle, and I wouldn't accept less. It holds a place in my heart that no other car could near. I know that there would never be a question in my mind, that I will own many more s2ks in the future. I hope I never have to own anything else.

the lotus elise isn't street legal in the states. that might be the only car that would give this a run car for the money.
if you want a car that is dialed in for driving. if you want to know you just drove over an old thin dime because you felt it, this is your car.

if your seeking to define who you are by your car, go buy a vette.
