The best intake if your looking for something cheap, best gains, and looks would be the AEM V2.

I can't believe some people and the amount of money they spend on intakes when the V2 gives exact same gains and even more through out the powerband. Yes it may not look as nice as those JDM carbon intakes, but it's still a good looking intake.

You buy a V2 for around 200-300. Plug up the wholes under the hood so water doesn't leak onto it. spend another 50 bucks to get it covered in carbon fiber, or even have it painted a certain color of your choice. You get great power, best sound, good response, and great looks.

I actually agree with you to an extent.

Having had numerous intakes, not one is better than the other. They are all equal IMO, hence coming back down to your budget and looks.

If you want the name brand pair of pants for $200 vs the so so brand at $56 then your going to go with whats in your budget, really, considering both pants are equal in every aspect aside from the name/brand. I bought my Mugen intake used so I didnt feel the full extent of its $1500 pricetag.

so if I have holes under the hood how do I go about locating and plugging them up? Also HvRRz do you or did you have custom CF work done to yours? Where can I find out more about this? The problem is that I live on the east coast and I dont have any idea where to start with this kind of custom work. If they're all about the same, why dont I just go with the comptech which already has the CF box and Hydrolock isnt an issue? Or is the AEM really worth the trouble? I really like your idea it sounds awesome, Im just concerned I'll be spending more than its worth when I could just by the Comptech. What are your thoughts?

Hahaha why is it always you two who are answering my questions the most thoroughly? I really appreciate all your input on this guys.

damn so basically none of the under the hood intakes are a good choice if you're planning a vented CF hood huh? Is water getting into the snorkel not an issue? Im confused as to how your engine is safe from it in the rain.

nah I live in Maryland on the east coast, and it definitely rains here, yea I really like both of those hoods and was planning on picking one up once I get a little umph out of my engine first. So I feel discouraged by the under the hood intakes, and I know you take air from the opening in the front bumper on the left (if you're facing it) right? But how is yours safe from hydrolock with a direct opening on on the front bumper?
Its just kinda sucks that as soon as I get the hood I have to replace the intake with one that will cost $1000 to $2000 dollars!!!

I also dont have a garage thats not full of sh#@!! But maybe I could work on that. Now if only my car could clear the curb to get up my driveway

Not a porblem glad to help, but in the end it's still your decision.

There was a thread that showed the right holes you would need to plug but I'm having trouble finding it. Anyone else have the link?

My original plan for my V2 was to have it wrapped in carbon fiber(which I was quoted $100 from a local shop), but my plans have changed. I've decided to paint it along with some other body pieces I'll be adding to the car in the near future. I've seen this done before and it looks amazing when it matches the car color. We did this to my friend intake in his EG, and it looks awesome. I'll get a pic for you later today. As far as where you can get either carbon work, or get it painted would depend on the shops around your location. I know there are lots of places to go here in cali, and there's got to be some around you too(sorry i know that doesn't help), just have to find them.

If you get the V2 and plug the holes then you really don't have to worry about hydrolocking the motor. check here V2 install and you can see when finished how high the V2 sits. Unless you stop in a puddle for a long time then you should have nothing to worry about. My V2 actual rests higher then the one in that thread, so you can adjust while you install.

If your getting a vented hood, then pick the intake depending on which hood our getting. If it's something like mugen or TS then i'd go with the AEM. if it's J's or amuse style then either one works. your choice.
