i gutted my air box. I have the k&n drop in and spoon duct. Spoon says to gut the air box and block off the resonator. It doesnt hurt to gut it.

Hey guys, forgive my newbishness, but I have some questions, and didn't wanna read through all 100 some odd pages here.

What's a VACF? What are the cooling mods you guys talk about? And the different head gasket, I'm guessing is for higher comrpession? What's the cost for those items and what kind of gaings can be had with them?

I'll add it no problem, but since your dyno is speed based and not rpm based, and you have an AP2, I need you to go out and tell me what rpm's each of those speed values are recorded at. Make sure you're in 4th gear when you do it.

Your new here, so I'll be nice and answer, but just fyi, there's been a BILLION threads on this stuff...the search feature works wonders

Apexi VAFC - VTEC Air/Fuel Controller. Simply put, it's a piggyback unit that allows you to modify the VTEC crossover point, and adjust your air / fuel ratio. Dyno tuning is required.

Cooling mods - Mugen or Spoon Thermostat and fan switch, and Hondata intake manifold gasket. The thermostats open at 170 instead of 190, and the fan switch turns the fans on at a lower temp as well, although I'm not sure what it is. Stock fan switch engages at 210. The Hondata intake manifold gasket is a composite material gasket that goes between your manifold and the head. It acts as an insulator, keeping the manifold cooler. The coolant passage to the throttle body is blocked as well, to keep the throttle body from warming up. This mod makes cold starts in very cold climates a little more finicky, but overall, the benifits are worth it. Manifold temps, while driving, are significantly lower. Cooler air is more dense, thus more air is making it into the cylinders, thus more fuel can be utilized, and more power created.

Head gasket - Forced induction guys go with thicker head gaskets to lower the compression ratio to prevent detonation. Naturally aspirated guys like a thinner head gasket, to raise the compression slightly. The gains are minimal, but you can expect 4-6 rwhp out of a thinner head gasket, such as the Spoon or Cometic.
