also check it out here, it dosent say anything about measuring HP than coverting it... all it talks about is measuring TQ and speed.

What kind of mods? How much hp do you expect?

so tell me, if you dyno'd without a RPM pick-up and Dyno's do not read torque, then how did you get a reading at all? the Dyno reads only Horsepower? kinda odd because HP is an equation of Torque over time,

dynos are torque reading Calculators..... in Horsepower = Torque * RPM / 5252, you need 2 out of 3 variables to figue any one variable Pefectly, if you dont have an RPM signal and the dyno dosent read torque you wont get a accurate number,

now if the Dyno Reads Torq ( which it dose). You can get a HP number without a RPM signal because the dyno will default to the Rotor speed, and calulate that with Torq and come up with a HP figure that wont be 100 % accurate.

so if you dyno'd without a RPM signal, your HP number will be off a bit on the high side, on my s2k back to back with and without the Tach hooked up it was 1-3 HP peak more than with the tach.
Riddle me this, if what you say is true, then their quote "The dynamometer applies various loads on the engine and measures the engine's ability to move the load." is incorrectly stated. The ability to move a load requires force*time, otherwise known as horsepower. We're both arguing the same point, but different sides. Chassis horsepower is calculated the same way on a dyno whether or not the rpm pickup is being used or not. The blue plot on my dyno sheet was taken when the rpm pickup worked, thus resulting in the plotted torque curve. The red line was recorded without rpm (hence speed as the x-axis), thus no torque was calculated. In both cases, the horsepower was measured from the dynometer, not torque.

For the sake of everyone's understanding, Torque can be measured via dyno, yes, and horsepower can be calculated from it. Horsepower can be measured via dyno, and torque can be calculated from it. Both figures can be substantiated from direct measurement, and both figures can be calculated from the other due to their inverse relationship.

We're both right...just in my point on my dyno sheet, I'm more right that you

I didn't read that whole article, but what they are saying dose NOT apply to all dyno's

"The dynamometer applies various loads on the engine and measures the engine's ability to move the load."

most Dynamometers do not apply any load at all, ie. dynojet, dynapak.

but what you are saying about the TACH being hooked up or not is what is going to display your Torq on the chart is not true... are you sure the dyno operator didnt just leave that second X out?

if you look at my dyno in my pictures you will see my HP curve, but no Torq, is torq still being read? YES to because get HP the dyno must have 2 Variables.... the reason my chart does not show TQ is because i didnt display it.

I dont want to argue with you, but ALL dynos read TQ.

ahhh, i had a 7th gen civic EX sedan 5sp. loved the car, one of the slowest and most fun Hondas i've owned.

it was pretty well modded too...

Engine:
-AEM short ram
-DC race header
-Mugen fan switch
-Mugen thermo
-Pivot earthing system

132whp 108wtq(same dyno as my s2k).......15.5@89..........and yes the car was a factory freak.

Suspension:
-DC upper front STB
-DC rear lower tie bar
-DC rear upper STB
-DC5R rear sway bar
-Igals camber kit
-Tanabe race springs
-Brembo slotted and cross drilled front rotors

it was a great handler, and for a SOHC VTEC 1.7 it moved pretty well. but sadly my wife did like the way it drove, and wanted leather and the badass lil 4DR was traded for our TSX last winter.
