The Official Mid-A A/V Thread
I did some adjusting before I ever put a signal through it. I played abit last night and realized my contrast setting was right in the middle, so I turned that up to about 3/4... much better. It's not ideal, but should be fine until I get a hold of one of those discs.
Ricky Bobby: Tallegaga Nights is duh-umb.
It has some pretty funny clips, but a terrible disappointment.
As for the PS3, it lists resolution hierachy as 480p, 1080i, 720p, and then 1080p. I have only been able to watch TN and two games, but I'd have to say that my tv's deinterlacer is good enough to surplant the 720p as the better picture. This is an old man's eyes opinion.
Also, zero burn-in on my plasma after 4 hours of continuous gaming.
That was with TW's PGA. Kyle has spent a couple of hours at a time on TH: Project 8... still no burn-in. I dumbed down the sharpness and brightness without totally screwing up the experience. I still need to pick up some additional HDMI cables. Also, with 3 HDMI devices, I now need to look into a switcher- either a separate one or a new receiver that handles the switching. The benefit of going the receiver route would be the reduced cabling/wires. Too bad I'm tapped out. Looks like I'll be switching between the HD-DVD player/PS3 unit being able to use the second input on the media receiver. It's not that bad since the backside of my "rack" is open.

Depends on the type of sports you watch. I think we nearly have the market locked up on NASCAR, golf, yachting, etc. Stadium sports like football, baseball, etc. are already HD because they can have (mostly) stationary cameras, so the investment was much easier at the time.
Our upstairs DTV HD receiver has been cutting out and resetting anytime an HD program was/is selected, so we purchased a replacement- our first dvr of any kind. From what I understand, it's not like the TiVO- only has a single buffer. Since I have zero expeinece with this stuff, I'll be messing with it Sunday. I have now run out of run in the a/v "rack." Not sure which piece I'm going to relocate. Most likely it'll be the PS3.
