For Chris and Chris:

Wait to buy a plasma
Bestbuy has the Panasonic 50" TH-50PX60U for $2000 on sale, and if you combine it with a 12% off Reward Zone coupon from this weekend it works out to only $1760 for a nice TV. Its only 720p, but it still should be nice, plus 0% financing until 2010.

Circuit City has it for $2000 too plus a 10% off coupon if you like CC better.

YMMV on whether either deal works, a lot of places will tell you that since its already on sale you can't combine it with a coupon deal.

CC Coupon
BB Coupon

The BB Coupon specifically says can't be used with TVs above 37" so again, it might not work -- If you got the coupon in the mail for 12% off like I did, then it does not have any restrictions.

That's the one S2KinVa is most likely getting. IIRC, he said they have an employee friend at CC that can get the employee price on it.

Ryan.

I think we'll see another wave of decent discounts in March- CES introductions will start rolling out.

Yea, they're sticklers about it. Hopefully you guys have the un-restricted coupon

I have the unrestricted coupon from BB, it expires tomorrow, if anyone local wants it for the TV or whatever. There's also a 33% off all Home Theatre products (audio like receivers, speakers etc) if you buy a TV. But I don't think you can combine it with the 12% off.

One other thing to mention is that usually there are restrictions from purchasing items in their Magnolia Theatre.

Just had the Panasonic 42-in plasma and Bose CD/DVD/Audio system (bought at Best Buy) delivered last Sat. Watched the games yesterday on it. Awesome! Am having a techie come out Fri to tweak the connections and make sure the setup is the optimal one.

Sweeeeeeeet... That's all I have to say and I haven't even set the damned thing up right yet

Sharp 52" AQUOS 46U-series, November '06 build date. ($3399)
Paired with the Denon Faroud (?) enabled upscaling DVD player ($300)

Basically, yes, there is horizontal banding - if you're looking at one of the gray test screens or there's no source image on the screen at all. Boo hoo... For practical use/viewing? Can't see a damned thing, whatsoever. Damned AVSForum guys are wayyy too anal, if you ask me.

So, on my list...
- Video Essentials or other calibration DVD
- HDMI cable
- DVI-D to HDMI cable (for cable box, hooked up today)

Thankfully, I'm familiar with this thread and knew that $275 for a ing HDMI cable is sheer insanity... Hell, the cheapest 4' cable is like $100... NOT!

So, I need to order those cables ASAP! 480p via component video is *eh*

Unfortunately, upon checking the cable box they installed today (after scratching the SHIT out of our newly-installed hardwood floor, thank you very much!!!! ) there is no HDMI connection, only component and DVI-D (and firewire, usb, optical audio). My LCD only has HDMI

Maybe Comcast provides an HDMI-ready box?

Anyway, lemme go check out earlier posts here and get me some HDMI cables!

ordered cables (monoprice) and calibration DVD (video essentials). WOOT! Ready to rock out.

I really just want to get it hooked up at the condo so I can watch stuff in HD on the broadcast. I'd really like to catch Baraka in HD... Hopefully it's still available. I've got it on DVD (or someone has borrowed it! grrrr!), but I can imagine that 70mm original will translate very well to HD
