12v Power issues
Hi,
I am having issues with my 05 S2k and wondered if someone might be able to help.
What happens is as follows, sometimes my headunit won't turn on, the security light will just blink at me, and then usually after a period of driving it will finally power up, seems like a loose connection.
The previous owner had the dealer replace the head unit for this problem which did not resolve the issue.
I am also finding that any cigarette lighter adapters for say an I pod or phone charger or whatever can't get enough power to operate correctly. And if I install one, it will immediately turn the radio off if it was on.
The final thing is that I can't seem to access the OBD2 with our scan tool, as if there isn't power at the OBD2 connector.
Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Just figured I'd check here first, going to look for anything suspicious like a fuse on its way out or something simple. The car did have an aftermarket dealer installed alarm previously, which I have removed. This had no effect on the problem, and I made sure all wires that had been quick connected to were still in good condition. There are no other electronic mods.
Thanks!
Andrew

It sounds like your battery or alternator are dying. Do the following to check.
If you have a voltmeter, check battery voltage, it should be 12.5-13.0 with the engine off. Then start the car and check again. Should be showing minimum of 14 volts at the cables, to a max of 14.5. If the readings are much different go to an auto parts store and have them check your battery and alternator for condition.
If this isn't the problem, then you have a loose or corroded connection, probably at the main fuse block.
