I've only seen a dash mount work well once.

Some guy with a VW Bug (Gigantic dash) had two pure midranges mounted in the center of his dash running in mono, bandpassed to a very narrow frequency range. The pair of speakers were so quiet, if they were alone, you wouldn't be able to tell what song was playing. However, they did well in centering and bringing to the front his soundstage.

Which class do these guys you know compete in? I wouldn't mind meeting some hardcore audio types when I move to Austin next May

 

If one of my installers did that install..........................I'de fire him on the spot!
