i ended up going w/ the JL 12W3v2 D2. for what the wife needs, it's a good sub w/ nice sound quality. i strongly considered the Infinity subs as well as the Elemental offerings, but eD has just been having too many problems w/ stock.

and yeah -- you might want to hold off on testing till you're sure everyone is up...

Still makes no sense for ED to discontinue this model. Supplier problems?
Just saying "supplier problems" is a severe understatement. I paid in full for my two e8a's and was supposed to have them *delivered* in 2-3 weeks and it ended up taking 4 months for them to ship out to William (WLaurent) for fitment in my enclosures. Honestly, it's a faint memory now and was well worth it at even double the cost. If you guys ever see an e8a for sale on the board snatch it up immediately

WLaurent (William) is out of the country until the first of the year. I don't see anything being set up until after that time. However, based on my testing with 400 watts @ 2ohms this is definitely a viable option for those that don't want to give up their tool well.

The sub comes in two configurations either dual 2ohm or dual 4ohm. You will want between 200 and 500 watts RMS to drive the sub.

Dual 2ohm - you can run 1ohm load wired in parrallel or 4ohm load wired in series.

Dual 4ohm - you can run 2ohm load wired in parrallel or 8ohm load wired in series.

Given this information let's hear the recommendations.

yup. its not unusual to have big delays for ED. They switch buildhouse faster than god knows what.

Don't get started on preorder..that thing was hell for almost everyone. The subs were good during the days of TC sounds and Destijl. Who knows what ED will do next. lol.

What about doing something directly with TC Sounds?

I exchanged a few emails with a guy there who said he could arrange a build of a sample 2574 (their 8" driver). I backed off because it was kind of pricy and also because they don't seem set up to support end users. They mostly, I think, build for other companies that put their own badges on the product. Besides, I heard later, the guy who was working with me left.

Still, it was tempting. Imagine having control over some of the product details (T/S parameters, etc...) If there is interest, a volunteer from this forum could give the number of units and build parameters (for the WLaurent box, for example) to TC Sounds. TC Sounds would then come back with a per unit price.

By the way, who is/was Destijl? I've come across that name a few times but never understood who he is.
