Yes, this was our man.

On a serious note, I would love to do a comparison on this sub. I will be able to compare against my recollections of RF HX2, JL 8W3v2, and now Alphasonik PSW 810.

William, you've got PM.

Jim
Looks like I will get this out to Jim this week for some testing and abuse. He can then forward it to Philip for some more abuse and then ship it back to me eventually. Unfortunately I will not be able to do anything further on the project until I return from vacation in early January.

On the educational side of things..I just read my previous post and think I made a mistake, but I am not sure. If you have two DVC 4 ohm subs, would you wire each sub in parallel for 2 ohms then series the set to get 4 ohms...or...series the DVC 4 ohm to 8 ohms then parallel the set to get 4 ohms load? Will it sound different? (Just wondering....)
there are some fairly complex magnetic field arguements that can be made to discuss the theoretical differences here between the two - but no, it shouldn't matter... given a choice, i'd do and always recommend series voice coils, parallel subs.

Also, I saw a JL 12W7 driven by a SoundStream VGA 600.2 in a photo on the 'Stereo Install Pictures Here' thread. See page 8 about 1/2 way down.

The 12W7 is rated at 2.47 ohms I believe. If so, the Van Gogh must be able to approach 3 Ohm loading sucessfully? (Or at least the 600.2 does...)
hard to know what he's doing... he could be running it in some stereo type configuration...

I received the sub today, and it looks really good. I will try and fire it up tomorrow. Here are a couple pictures. Sorry the second one is not that clear, but you get the idea. I will post impressions on performance at a latter date.

Jim,

Can you take a couple photos of the sub removed from the enclosure as well?

I'm curious how it stacks up against your Alphasonic. (I see a good photo of the Alphasonic on their website.)

Also, I have never even seen an e8a. Any old photos or your opinion of what you remember it to be like compared to the 10" would be greatly appreciated.

Finally, I think I'm ready for the Alpine 9835. I think you mentioned a vendor you might recommend....PM me when you get a chance.

Thanks,
Keith

Surreal,

For the 9835 I would recommend Discount Jungle. Very good prices and great service. I ordered my Pioneer from there, with no problem, and you can get them on the phone right away.

Flithcroft was the one who referred me to them and he has used them in the past.

Thanks pikkashoe.

I sure do envy your Miami location right now.
The temperature is supposed to drop down into the 20's here tonite...

I've been kicking around PAS2KNut's post where he mentioned your Alphasonik can take 800 watts. So, since you are so far ahead of me maybe you need a fresh idea to keep you occupied...

SoundStream has a 800.2 that will look good along side your 500.4 allowing you to take the two channels that drive your Alphasonik now and use them for S-pods.

Just a thought...

looks good...

i think the e8a thread is lying around here somewhere for pics. last i looked, it was still chock full of them. and i'm 99% sure they have pics of the k on the elemental designs website.
i'll guarantee you one thing though -- the e8a is more of a monster than the k series drivers.

just checked -- the e8a thread's pics are mostly gone now... looks like mgiang7 took them down at some point. i think i have a few at home -- when i get a chance, i'll try to host a couple.

regarding comparing to the e8a, i think Jim got a good listen to mine - so he may be the best for comparing across the gambit of subs... (from the JL 8"s to the Alpha's, etc. as i understand, the k is coming to me after Jim, so i'll be doing a full comparison then...

Surreal,

Yeah its only getting in to the 60's here at night. Not cold at all.

As for your idea, the sub is only getting 500 watts, and its more than enough.

You have to hear it in person to see what I mean. It is perfect. Like i said I have the bass set at negative 5 right now, and it's nice and tight and loud. I can crank it up if I like, if I want to shake the whole area code!! This sub is very very efficient.

I cant imagine giving it 800 watts, it would be way to much for our car.

I never had any interest in S pods, the cabin is so small and with the utopia's in there I have more than enough sound, not to mention the rear fill from the sub.

RIght now I am completely satisified with my system. (except the occasional rattle out of the right door, need to work on that this weekend)

Yes, it will be heading to you next.

I'm going to try and fire her up tonight.

cool -- let me know how she sounds... especially in comparison to the monster Alphasonik. i suspect the Alphasonik is going to blow the eD sub out of the water for pure output (just due to the higher excursion of the Alpha), but i'm curious as to how they will compare musically...
