Help me Build a s2K Sound System
John
Cheers! The car is being delivered on Wednesday. I'm giddy like a school girl.
BTW: Didja find that vinyl?
Yes, many big amps in my car. I love to overpower my speakers. To me there is nothing worse than a speaker that sounds like it is struggling from lack of wattage. "Effortless" is a word i like to associate with audio. Plus the thought of all that phoenix Gold gear decorating the rear wall of my trunk makes me smile.
If you left your polyfill in a bag, it would essentially be a pillow taking up volume. Now, as I understand it, if you were to take that polyfill out of the bag and spread it around, this would create the illusion of a larger chamber. I think this works because there is a large amount of surface area with a minimal gain of mass. The soundwaves reflect off of all the inconsistencies of the polyfill, and therefore travel a greater distance. But honestly, I really don't know. But it does work- if your volume is too small fill it with polyfill but spread it around thinly. If your space is too large keep your polyfill in a bag or put a pillow in.
And also Thanks for helping me out with this. My new baby will have a bit of the darkside in it thanks to you. I think that's cool.

I did find the vinyl we need Bill and I'll be picking it up this week and finishing the box for you as well. It should be done by Friday and will ship out Saturday or Monday.
Now as for the polyfill issue:
I did some more research and found out some interesting info. With polyfill it depends on how much you stuff into the box or location. If you want to make the box seem "larger" you only half fill the box, inturn making the soundwaves travel farther and slower. However if you fill the box in such a way as I did with my box setup packing it tight it will make the box seem "smaller".
So in a way we're all right,
it just depends on what you trying to do with the box and the sound coming from it.
Live and learn
Cheers

Bill -- i'm thrilled to hear that the car is getting here soon... make sure they do the PDI correctly and make them SHOW you 14 spring spacers... (at least i think it's 14....
there are threads everywhere on the issue.) and Bill, if you're an aftermarket rims kind of guy -- i get dibs on your OEM 17" rims...
how's that for vulturing!?

Are you kidding me... I just removed a bag of Polyfill from that box. Take it out if you wish but I will promise you it will sound worse(using the same sub) I have been using polyfill for years to take up space. Its never failed me yet.

I get it Friday. That's good enough. And there's nothing I can do about it. I'm still stoked. And you can bet i'm checking the mileage.
I don't mnd that it's a bit late... and I don't mind that I have to cut her up....
Fun times are on the way!
