Modifry Wired DCI

The mute function on the DCI just uses the mute on your DCI via the telephone mute wire. Blame the head unit manufacture for no adding a smooth volume ramp on unmute

The Pioneer attenuates rather than Mutes, but the atten is probably around 40-50 dB or so (I'm guessing here), so it is very usable.
My Pioneer (the DEH-P6700MP) has a selectable Attenuate or Mute on telephone lead. Accessed by holding function for 2-3 seconds while the unit is off.
Your Pioneer may do the same. Good Luck!

Tell that to my head unit. When I press the mute button, it mutes, no ifs ands or buts about it. If you really want I'll take a movie of me pushing the mute button and watching the screen say "MUTE" not "ATT"
Of note, my DCI originally was NOT connected with the mute lead on my pioneer head unit, and the plug for the DCI was not fully seated in the head unit. With this set of circumstances, pressing the "mode" button on the dash controls in fact attenuated the head unit. This, however, is neither here nor there.

If you use the wired remote jack on the DCI, the mute will do attenuate. If your wired DCI also has the mute wire (Bob said not all would) then if you coneect it up to the phone mute lead then it might (sounds like in your case it does) do a full mute if you have that set in the options.
My wired DCI does have the mute wire, so I am going to try this when I have it out the next time. If it works, I will leave it connected that way to get a full mute.

Or your HU doesn't understant the mute "command" ??????
I had it bass-ackwards. Bob said the newer wired DCI modules may lack the electronics to do the mute. I think his thinking was the Sony and Pio HUs would respond to the mute commend via the wired remote interface, so no need to include the circuitry to use the mute wire. I am not sure that all the Sony (and older Pio) HUs even have/had the mute wire. I think the wiring harness is the same (and no indicator of the mute electronics). I am going to try it on mine when I have it out the next time. If the mute works, then I will leave it wired. If it does not, then Bob suggested I ground the mute lead and see if the stereo muted (and maybe the CD/MP3 paused). If so, then he could make sure the wired modules in the future send both the mute command and had the circuits to ground the mute lead. Typical for modifry, always trying to make it better
My HU is the DEH-P80MP, if that matters.

I started with a DEH P470MP, it had no mute lead. The DCI didn't mute it at all, unless the cord wasn't properly inserted and in that case it attenuated instead.
I absolutely hated that head unit and replaced it with the 6700 I have now, it does have the mute lead. I think the 6700 is the lowest model with a mute lead, and the 80 is one of the top end models so I'd be surprised if it didn't come with one.
