i've been AFK a lot lately.

Jim emailed me this link about a week ago, and i'm just now getting to it. sorry.

there are several things that can be wrong here and cause this kind of problem, from phase issues to connections to settings.

i've PM'ed you my email address -- contact me via it and i'll help you get to the bottom of the problem.

before you email me though, please please please take the time to read my blurb on how to set gains in the S2000 FAQ. it alone will explain to you why 'what your gain setting is' has very little to do with the volume you should hear.

first things i can't help but wonder are --
were you using stock speakers? has it improved w/ the Boston Pro's?

what's the crossover point set at for the HU? and the slope?

set the parametric EQ to flat for now. i can explain that another day, but it should not matter if it is set to flat.

Dave -- yup.

between work, the twins getting older, the ramping up of stress in daily life, and a new major distraction -- i've just had very little spare time. as it was i was posting a whole lot from work since things were slow there... but as they've geared up more, i have less time... and myself and the IT group have differing opions on 'acceptable usage', so...

either or - i'm out here. still kicking, still loving my S, and still tinkering. i just have to struggle to find the time to post here it seems...

i'm trying (via emails) to help D-04 w/ this problem, but honestly -- it's a bit confusing. i witnessed something similar to this in Jim's setup at the SESM... he just didn't have the bass response from his system that i had, though we have VERY similar component setups and power setups, he's using a newer Alpine head and i have an older one... i'd love to have a bit of time to tinker w/ the new Alpine heads and see if there's a trend here...

heheh... only 2 months late.

the rugrats are growing like mad, and are now just starting to try and walk. (didn't seem that long ago did it? ) at least they are sleeping nights again. the wife's doing fine and aside from both of us being exhausted all the time - life's pretty darn good.

and yeah, work is much busier now, so posting from there just isn't 'do-able' anymore. the good thing is that it seems my job is pretty secure.

i'll PM you my email so you can better keep in touch.

The 9833 is set up exactly the same as the 9835 which I have in my "S"..............

I'm bettin the cure is in the X-Over menu.

Try This:

1. Hold down your menu button for at least 3 seconds.....
2. Get to the "X-over" menu
3. Scroll / move to the Subwoofer setting........Here comes the inportant part........
4. Set the slope to"0"
5. Set the db level all the way up...........also "0"
6. Set th cross over Hz to 40 or 50......which ever you prefer.
7. Push the volume button inward once....this stores your settings.

Note the "Slope" & the "db Level" are two seperate settings..........they both have to be at "0" to get the max volume output.

When you are tuning the door speakers......you can use the "Slope" in conjunction with the cross over Hz........to get the speakers adjusted / tuned.......Here is an example for the door speakers:

Using a Slope of 18db.......and a X-over point of 80Hz..........gives you a very similar sound as........a setting of a 12db slope with an X-over point of 100Hz.

Don't worry about how you have the Parametric EQ set......just set it to a flatline all the way across for now....press volume button to store settings.

Next: Use the Custom MX (Media Expander)

1. Hold the MX button down on the deck for at least 3 seconds
2. The custom MX menu appears......
3. Set the MX to either "2" or "3'..........
4. Press the MX button to store the desired setting.

If this doesn't work.................it's not the deck.....something else is wrong.

Or - deck subwoofer outputs are not working correctly.
