umm.... let me see....

How do I get the OEM HU out and install an aftermarket HU?
Follow the instructions located here at Lucid's site.
Lucid also has another set of instructions for HU removal and wiring here as well.
Some of Lucid's info is a bit old, but most is still quite applicable.
2004+ owners will have to pull up their center console in order to remove the radio door.
There are more instructions on installation further down in the FAQ.
i've got a 2001 -- so i have no real idea (excepting what i read or am told by other owners) if there's anything more required for the 2004+ other than pulling up the center console.
and pulling the center console is pretty easy and is covered in 2 other locations in the FAQ.

are the s-pods worth getting on the 06 S2000's as they already have headrest speakers.

Worth the upgrade and $$$?

Or would it be more beneficial to upgrade the HU and fronts instead of HU and s-pods on an MY06.

Referring the the middle box illustrated above (trapezoid shaped)

The inside angles of the box are 65 and 115

The height on the side pieces are 6.5" (with that knowledge you really don't need the angles.)

25 degrees is the angle you will be cutting everything at

haven't heard the '06 speakers yet, so can't tell. based on their size and location, i cannot think that they are a match for the S-pods in terms of output and sound quality... however, given that they are already there -- they may be a good value for the money, especially for some basic low volume fill.

campbuds - thanks for the info. i'll link your thread into the FAQ as a help for others: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=398527

I'm debating wether to switch out the rear's on an 06 S2000

I plan to get a Eclipse CD5000, front speakers, amp, and a DCI interface.

Is it worth the cost to upgrade the rears? I'd rather not spend if it wont be a very noticeable difference in sound.

advice?

Also one more thing.

This question may sound odd but is a DCI really that necessary? In my previous cars, the audio controls are on the steering. In the S2000, they are on the left side.

So is the 100 dollars spent on a DCi worth it because you will still have to reach to the left.......why not just reach to the right (the HU) and save a hundred bucks as well

Am I missing something here?

unr1 -

generally, you will get better answers if you start a new thread (vs posting in the FAQ)

i'll attempt to quickly answer both your posts.

depending on who you ask, rears are everything or nothing. i am in the less important camp. imo, if you're going w/ a high power setup for front speakers, then rears are not all that critical. i have however sat in some cars w/ VERY nice systems and the rears were a definite positive addition. it's just in my opinion (and according to my budget) not a good bang for buck feature.
they add a good fill and can even add a dominant sound from the rear. if you like being surrounded in music, they are probably a good investment. if you're more concerned w/ a good up front soundstage -- they probably aren't the best value for your money. take the $$ you would have spent and buy nicer fronts.

so, you need to figure that out for yourself... if you can, listen to some folks w/ rears and see what you think.

imo, the DCI is very important. i was one of Bob's first customers. having controls on the left and them having NOT function would annoy me intensely. also, i like to keep my stereo door up, so the controls let me run things w/o opening the door.
ALSO, i like it because i can make quick and easy adjustments to my sound even while i'm in the midst of intense driving.... from the 9-3 driving position, i can hit the controls w/ my pinky alone.

so the $100 was a good value for me.

To install amp power cable, you CAN run it throught the grommet under the battery. easier and much cleaner.
