oh so basically i need something to cover the bottom of the sub?
Yes my goal is to install a sub where the spare tire is.
Yes I would agree you will pretty much have to give up on the spare tire. I think there was someone a long time ago who fashioned an enclosure that somehow sat on top of the spare (as you are suggesting?). I remember seeing a picture of it but it was so long ago...
Stealthsux, your solution looks pretty good. What size subwoofer are you using? Do you know your approximate net volume? How does it sound?

na i was suggesting mounting the sub where the convertible top folds into and port it with 2, 2 inch holes on either side of the sub. the air space that is available where the spare tire is and the gas tank is. if i did the configuring right which i think i did it is a perfect size for my sub for best quality sound

Yes, absolutely there is lots of air space below the tray that holds the convertible top, even if you keep the spare tire.

I have...
Whats cool is that the original tray still fits, but I made a new tray out of MDF and cut wholes in it and covered the whole piece with grill cloth, to alow the bass excape into the cabin..
And yes my spare tire cover still fits like nothing happened..

The tray would rattle pretty bad with the sub in the tool well, I couldnt imagine how bad it would rattle with the sub in the spare tire well.
I love it though, you get to keep all of the little bit of truck space we have!

sorry i'm not so good at visualizing things so I don't get what your solution will look like. Sounds interesting, though.

i used my 4ch amp for my front components and rear components. didnt even think about it. but anyway i now need an amp for the sub now which i will have to remove the spare tire because thats where that amp has to sit.
