Testing - Multi Radio DCI for Eclipse HU's
Modifry,
Sounds like a great program. I look forward to seeing the final options. If possible, I would love to put "dibs" in for one of the "new" units to trade. My unit is only 1 week in the car; I'm not sure if I should be
ing, or
ing.
Thanks again for all of your hard work. WE ALL APPRECIATE IT!

The problem is the volume increments +4 units with each tick of the volume lever (below 50) and +2 units above volume level "50" on the DCI. This needs to be resolved before Modifry feels comfortable releasing this as "production".
I will be resending Modifry my remote for my HU 8053 as soon as he returns from vacation.
The problem is not limited to the Speed Control Volume (SVC), it also occurs with the DCI volume attenuator. There seems to be a problem related to the remote sending out an unexpected 2 volume increments for each press of the volume adjustment instead of the expected one increment. Modifry will be "rescoping" the remote when he returns just to see if there is a way to resolve the problem.
The way the SVC works now it goes from a barely audible "38" when parked to an ear splitting "54" by the time you hit 75 mph.
Stay tuned

I know this has taken a long time to update and I apologize.
There have been insurmountable problems with prior test units that required time off inorder to gain a fresh perspective on potential solutions. The developer is back on the trail of resolving the Eclipse DCI issues.
Version 1.2 was being shipped today and is on its way to me to be installed and tested.
RE: SCV On/OFF Control Enhancement - This version will include the SCV on/off control using the Mode/CH button combo feature on version 1.1. SCV on/off setting will now remain in effect until button combo is used to change to the alternate setting. This will remain in effect even when the car is turned off and restarted, ensuring that your final choice remains in effect.
RE: SCV Volume Attenuation Problem - Expect new test card will eliminate insidious problem with duplicate volume increment signals being sent in versions 1.0 & 1.1 DCIs. Problem currently causes rapid & ear splitting / filling jarring SCV volume attenuation when going from 0 to 85.
Wish us luck.

While I can't speak for Modifry, I'm sure that he would want to resolve any issues with owners of older versions of the Eclipse DCI for those early adopters having the attenuator problem. He's always done right by board members in the past.
As for me, I still use the version 1.0 because its better then the alternative ... no interim Eclipse dash controls.
Other than volume control increment issue, all other functions work as expected. He's even added the SCV on/off enhancement per our earlier feedback to him. Nice touch Modifry.
Why the premature release?
At one time, because we had tried anything we could think of to resolve the volume attenuation problems with my Eclipse 8053 HU, we thought the issues were specific to my top-of-the-line HU as it was so very different electronically than their other models. When Modifry tested it on other middle/lower priced Eclipse HU's in his local store they seems to work just fine.
Kronos / Aftsman - What HU models's are you running? Are your problems related the the volume attenuation I mention above or something different?

I know this must be frustrating for some Eclipse owners. But just remember why you bought the Eclipse .. it's sounds great without a lot of flash and glitter! (kind of like our car)
I was fortunate to have been able to do a direct side-by-side (A/B) comparisons of the Eclipse and Alpine HU's in the $600 price point range last year. There truly is a noticeable difference as buyers of the Eclipse probably already know. IMO its much more natural sounding, has extremely low distortion levels due to clean running 8/16 volts out and the CD playback is one of the best I've heard.
Alpine makes great HU's, but they do sound different from Eclipse.
Don't throw in the towel just yet. Modifry is a freaking genius when it comes to this kind of stuff and he'll figure out something. He just had to let the bruising heal from banging his head against the wall for months on this Eclipse DCI project.

I have the 5423, not top of the line but not the bottom. I only have 5 volts on the pre-outs, but I also have low impedance at 50 ohms. Don't get me wrong I like the head unit, but the Alpine's seem to be more DCI friendly and I like the dash controls.
Here's some of the things I've told Modifry about...
Here's what I've found so far...
1. We have three remote settings on the Eclipse units(A,B and C). You have programmed the DCI for A. The volume and mute work on all three settings, you just can't change cd tracks.
2. The volume increase works like this now(changed again).. it increments in units of 4 until it gets to 48. Then, the next increment is 51. Once it hits 51 it then increments in units of 2(i.e. 53, 55, etc).
And my Mode button and Band work the same as the volume, meaning when the button is pressed it increments more than once. i.e. if I am on FM1 and try to go to FM2 it skips it and goes to AM. Same for the power, aux, cd, and tuner when using the Mode button.
But, this is better than the alternative. And since I just listen to CD's anyways I don't use any buttons besides, MUTE, Track Advance, and volume. I didn't even know about the other options until Modifry asked me if they worked. I still haven't hooked up the SCV as it's TOO FREAKIN COLD.
I still give DCI 2 thumbs up!!!
