Tweeter install advice needed
So I'd like to add some tweeters to my car. I've looked at the stereo system thread and don't see a ton of concrete help on what I'm trying to do. Many of those systems are more involved that what I'm planning and some don't have active pictures anymore.
I'm curious how hard it is to run wires from my HU to the doors. I mean, how much of the dash do I have to take apart? From what I've read, taking out the HU is pretty simple itself.
But is it easy to snake wires behind the dash and to the door panels?
Thanks,
D

You don't need to run new wires from the HU to the doors in order to add tweeters, unless you're going active.
Simply use the existing wires, connect them to a crossover unit (which you can install in the door) and then connect the crossover unit to your new woofers and tweeters.
I'm assuming you're going to remove the existing coaxial speakers before attempting this?

i ran all new speaker wires through the door and drilled a small hole in the door for the tweeters in my ap1. i placed the tweeters right infront of the door handles in the door inserts. the most complicated part was getting the courage to drill through my door

I guess I could piggyback from the main door speakers, but I don't think that would be very efficient. The Apline HU has 4 chans of power. So I think I'm better off running a separate pair for the tweeters, no?
I'm looking at tweeters that come with crossovers, btw (ie, Infinity Kappa).

But can't I just keep the existing coaxials and just run the 2nd set of wires (bi amp) to the new tweeters? I should be able to use the included crossovers w/ the tweeters and just not connect the sub outs.
I might end up being a bit bright sound wise, but that might not be so bad.

You could but...
You still need the crossover for the new tweeter, so you might as well install a proper set of components (can you even obtain tweeters and a crossover on their own?)
The stock speakers are crap, so you may as well get a decent set of components in there, you'll get better sound and more volume.
It's a lot less effort doing it the way I suggest, and you'll get better results.
Why are you so keen to make this hard for yourself?

Any suggestions on a good component setup? I was trying to keep the price down by just getting a set of tweeters. Crutchfield has a somewhat limited selection:

Would the Sony's be any good?

I'm afraid I don't know what's necessarily available over there, but there are a lot of threads on this subject. Have a search or just look down the first page as there are a few.
The Sony's are probably better than the stock speakers. How about some Alpine SPR-17S? I've heard these and they are a decent speaker.
Here's a good link with a selection in your budget range. http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/c_...&ShowAll=False&
