another blown 2nd gear thread
There's a 400 dollar stock tranny on the forum right now, why worry so much? I mean seriously, I can swap one out in a bout 2.5hrs... $400 bucks, 800 dollars at most from what I'm seeing lately.
I would bet most of em break due to people beating the hell out of em launching rather than mid pull being in gear. It's just like in jeeps when people say they snapped an axle on a speed bump.... fact is they stressed it out WOT in the mud or on some rocks the weekend before and failed to think about that being the time that micro-fractures occurred or fail to admit they were dumb in doing so prior.

Eventually those deals on stock trannies will get harder and harder to find.. Plus you really don't know what condition they're in until you start using it.. (unless you open every one of them up or test drive their car before buying the tranny which ain't gonna happen)
Might have a grind in a particular gear, bad synchros, or just be worn the hell out.. Then you basically gotta rebuild it to get it to atleast how it should be as a used transmission..

The supra transmission is a ton of money. The worst part is its really loud for a car thats gets driven daily or very often like mine. Wish full blown made their setup for the R154 setup because its much much cheaper than a v160 and wouldnt have a problem holding the power on a turbo S2000.
Hey guys i unfortunately get to join the 2nd gear club lol
I usually drive it nice and shift slowly and dont slam gears. the car when bought had 30k and the trans had 27k. Its a AP1 (not sure if the trans is ap2) . with the GT35R @ 18 psi its making around 500 Rwhp.
I now know that 1st and second are garbage in this car when that much power is in it. I knew this would eventually happen jsut not so soon. The trans is the weakest point on my car since the motor is sleeved and the rear end is from a cobra 9" with Porsche output shafts.
It happened when i was going against a 1,300 torque turbodiesel (and won ;] )i started from a second gear roll, shifted at 8.5 K ish and heard a loud pop (backfire type from exhaust) which ive never heard it do before (needs retune) and shifted into third and pulled away like 2 car lengths or more.
Then afterwards i stopped at a light and all seemed ok, Until i tried putting it into 1st, and acted up a bit, then shifted to second, and NO SECOND. it was like neutral.
got it home..made some noises when in idle when the clutch was out and first gear wouldn't want to go in, unless i went reverse to first.
i had it in neutral and revved it a bit and somehow cought a gear and inched away and stalled - while in neutral...
.So i changed the fluid and No chunks, just barely some shavings. Odd..
So i let it sit for a couple days then first gear came back and it went into it with no problem! BUT third gear is now grinding.
Current state: NO second gear. And i have 1st gear smooth, go skip shift to third and it grinds badly.
ANY TIPS ON SHIFTING FROM 1 - 3 SO IT WONT GRIND (untill i get another trans, or find a 360z /supra one ??
Thanks!
