You'd probably be lucky just to find a used Supra Transmission for that price, and I believe PPG gear sets are close to what it would cost to do the FBM V160 with a brand new transmission.

PPG Gear Set Price List:
PPG H/C Synchro Set 6392.00
PPG H/C Dog Set $8789.00
Then slap an install price on that too.

FBM V160 Conversion Kit Cost:
Brand New Getrag V160 from King's Performance $5595.00
Clutch Masters V160 Clutch Kit $2295.95
FBM V160 Conversion Kit $975.95

Total = 8866.90

I don't really have an answer for you, because I'm going through that dilemma right now. Unfortunately there is no cheap solution to Transmission problems ATM, The S2000 transmission was never designed to take that kind of abuse. I just bought the FBM 5.9 rear diff kit and the next weakest link is the transmission. I know some have had luck on the stock transmissions with over 500whp. But are probably just playing russian roulette.

I'd hate to spend $2k on a twin disk clutch, just to have the transmission fail, just to buy another $2k clutch for the FBM V160 swap and be 2k deeper in the hole than if I would have just done it right the first time. I guess since I've already started walking down the path, might as well just suck it up and just start saving. :sigh:

Jesus, this is why I dont slam gears, rev-match and keep it under 12 lbs in 2nd. It really is a buzzkill to have so much power, yet only use all of it on the highway in 3rd gear and above. If I wasn't having a kid, and just bought a house I would be going Supra tranny, but for now I will just keep babying it and cringe everythime I hit in 2nd, lol. (excuses excuses I know, lol)

They have a single disc clutch option for 1300 also.

Side note why does that trans have to be so damn expensive used. If this whole swap could come in around 3500 it be so much easier to swallow .

Being poor sucks.

Sold but atleast for
Reference.

I'm wondering is supra tranny much heavier than ours? I know you won't ask that if your stock one just doesn't hold power you are making but supra's trans look big and heavy...anyway I bet on Puddymod, he is working on that and I'm sure he is smart enough to make honda tranny bulletproof..

Yeah, more steel and more weight. Our gearbox actually make me laugh when I see it now, really tiny part of the box that actually can be called gearbox.
I bet he can make the gears better but the housing is still tiny and no room for going crazy.

Did anyone try the 350z box? Lower price and I know a 900bhp guy running it. Still think it´s cheaper to change tranny than making the stock one stronger.

Other good options:

* 5 and 6-speed ZF boxes from BMW E36 328 and M3, also E46 330.
* 6-speed gearbox from BMW 335 Turbo, best pick according to many.
* 5-speed box from 300zx, strong but too old in my opinion.
* 6-speed TR-6060 box from the new Camaro, my friend is using this. Bad synchro quality according to some.

I was just curious of this crazy idea I had. What about cryo treating the ap2 transmission, all the moving parts and gears. Wouldnt that make the transmission significantly stronger?

some people say that cryo treating doesn't really do anything...
